There was also a survey that profiles music software buyers, conducted
by AMC (American Music Conference). Particpating retailers included
G. Leuenberger & Co., Sam Ash, Knute-Koupee, P I Keyboards and Audio,
West LA Music, Computers and Music, and Daddy's Junky Music Stores.
Just under 50% of music software custmers are purchasing their
software through a music store. 14% purchased through a "computer
music store" and 17% direct through mail.
60% of purchasers are college grads, 50% are single, 48% have incomes
30K to 60K. 2/3's are not first time buyers. 86% use software for
sequencing, 79% for composing, 63% for recording, 60% for "making a
keyboard sound like other instruments".
93% own a sythesizer, 81% own a home recording system, 72% a drum
machine. Music software is not an inpulse buy. 86% planned the purchase,
81% new the name of the package they wanted before buying.
Most of these findings, I think, we already knew....
