1150.0. "Computer News - Digital/Apple Relationship" by JAWS::COTE (0 for 15) Fri Jan 15 1988 15:23

Mac is the 'standard' in MIDI PCs....

DEC just announced a new formal relationship with Apple...

Yeah, we might be able to send Mac sequences and software across
the Easynet without them taking side trips to AlphaBit Heaven.

And someone might explain the pinouts on a Mac 422 -to- DF03 modem
    cable.

Or we can all start reading the Mac notesfile and not clutter this
    one up with non-issues.

re .-1.....where did *you* come from?

{dont take offense now, this is mail, which drops alot of context
    bits.....like my (c) DECFACE_HAPPY logo}

    exactly what *is* a non-issue?

Are *you* gonna decide for us? wonderful!

But of course you had your (c) DECFACE_HAPPY on during
the reply and mail truncated the extraneous bits, right?

well, dont listen to me....*i* dont own a mac....

since it is however the machine with the most music/comp/midi
software available at this time....naw.... thats not a good reason
for us to be interested. Was that your point?

Yeah, an' there's gonna be a reciprocal employyyyyeeeeee discount
arrangement. Our employees can buy Macs for 25% over transfer cost,
their employees can buy 8800s for 25% below manufacturing cost.

I like nice people like you. ]-|.

Maybe and explanation will get you blood-pressure back down to a normal
level. By non-issues I mean, things like:

    - What kind of modem should I get for my Mac ?
    - Should I go with a hard drive or more memory ?
    - How do I format a 400K floppy to work in an 800K drive ?
    - What is an SCSI port ?

meaning things that are related to the Mac and its architecture, but
are for the most part in no way related to music.

1150.7Mac vs Atari vs VaxStation vs Debts...MENTOR::REGIt was 20 years ago next MayMon Jan 18 1988 12:4310

re (.6 re .4)	Well, the thought had occured to me that there
MIGHT be the possibility of employee discounts. I've been looking
very hard at the Atari ST 1040, but a Mac at the right price could
be attractive. Of course I was blowin' smoke, but if we could just
start the rumor here..... ? Anyway, you're happy enough with the
    ST, right ?

I'm happy with the ST ... but not if I can get a Mac at 25% of list
(aka $1250 for the big boy with a 20 meg hard disk).

DEC employees do, in fact, currently get 22% off list price (Macs
    included) at BusinessLand.

Of course, 25% off *transfer* cost would be significantly lower...
