| Well am I really first??
I'd like a guitar to midi converter that works....the new Roland
is close but no cigar...I expect the next generation Roland will
have hit the nail on the head.
Why? Because it's exciting to think of all those sounds being driven
by a guitar..because I play guitar much better than I play keys
and I don't get off on sequencing (other than the necessary evil
of the drum machine...).
A pitch transposer would be nice....just for fun....and a PCM-70
yeah that's the ticket...and a tascam 520....and...

| Yeah, A MIDI guitar. I've played around with the new CASIO 510 (strat
copy with a MIDI converter. For the money (about $900) it looks
real good. It tracks as well as the Roland...

I am waiting for the DX7-III. I sent the following suggestions
to Yamaha.
o 8 operators
o alternate waveforms, a la TX81Z
o input and output to and from any operator controlled by bitmaps
o 32-note polyphony, 16 just ain't enough for me
o mutli-timbrality
o hard-splits, each on its own channel
o true fixed frequencies

| .. the Oberheim DPX sample playback box supports Emax mode - $500..
.. a 24 channel 4 bus mixer without those damn loZ mic inputs -$500
.. a SMPTE (on analog tape) to MIDI song pointer setup - $350
.. a Fostex 16 track 1/2" recorder - you guessed it .. $500
there's probably more.. the theme is clear.. more MIPS for less
BUX.

A black box with realtime dynamic modeling of a bull moose vocal
track, with all expression parameters MIDI mappable. Drive waveforms
ranging from simple periodic stuff to loadable samples. 24 voice
polyphonic, stereo, "antler" performance controller optional.
re.7: Karl, be kind to my blood pressure--I first thought that
you were complaining about a $500 price for the Oberheim DPX sample
player, since you'd have to buy one. You and me both! $2500 is
more like it...

| OK, my wish is that all these music manufacturers would start using
stereo cords to implement stereo signal instead of two mono cords.
Or at least have one "smart" female plug that knows what was plugged
into it (stereo or mono) and do the right thing. I know this is
possible, I've seen it on some things.
Nah, come to think of it, this just isn't ambitious enough. Try
this:
I want a MUSIC ethernet. It should work for audio, MIDI, foot
controls,etc. and just because I'm feeling somewhat cantankerous
I'd say it should also be able to distribute power.

I *HATE* dealing with cords!!!
I want a MUSIC ethernet that operates entirely without cords, maybe
via UHF (like certain garage door openers). Each transmitter can
be assigned a node number and each receiver is programmed for a
specific node number.
And it should STILL be able to transmit power without wires by
using Tesla coils.
Just a modest suggestion...

expensive....but we're getting closer to it.....

| I have designed optical interfaces for DEC (but it wasn't productized).
I would say that some of amatuers could conjure up a wireless
infrared bounce-off-the white ceiling midi interface without killing
outselves.
My interface was fiber, which midi should have been (but it would
have been too expensive), so I'm uncertain of air links, but certainly
it's done, like when you switch channels tonight on the VCR remote.

Using the setup db described, discounting delay, you could do gigs
with a satellite dish and one keyboard. Leave all the other junk at
home.
