1013.0. "Atari ST Computer - Sequencer Recommendations" by DYO780::SCHAFER (Resist.) Fri Nov 13 1987 16:20

   Well, I went and did it.

   Finally got an Atari 1040ST. Any suggestions as to sequencing
   software that's available? (I already know all the names - I'm
   looking for personal opinions here.) Any other s/w nifties that I
   oughta be on the lookout for?

   Any potential gotchas using computers in general? Problems in live
   setups? Problems transporting? What about "securing" the disk drive
   during transport?

   Any help will be appreciated.

1013.1For a sequencer...HSTSSC::LEHTINEN[email protected]Sat Nov 14 1987 16:2615
    Go for either Steinberg or C-LAB as the sequencer.

    Steinberg is currently at revision 2.1. I heard there will still
    be one revision coming which is supposed to be a maintenance release.
    I have Pro-24 and the everything-to-everything sync box SMP-24 that
    goes with it. I've been very pleased with both of them. The nice
    thing with the combination is that you don't have to load tempo
    maps or anything (as with the SBX-80). It all happens automatically.

    I have no personal experience of the C-LAB, but have heard good
    opinions about it. And their earlier stuff has been exellent.

1013.2SMPTEtrack is greatCACHE::FONTAINEMon Nov 16 1987 09:4910
    I've been using the Hybrid Arts SMPTEtrack since last May. It's
    a great piece of software and comes with the SMPTE generator/reader
    for less than $500.00. I have had no problems with bugs even though
    it is a pre_release version of the software. They are currently
    shipping a new version which has many new features. I will have
    my new copy shortly. Also their sequencer is highly integrated
    with their other patch librarian and scoring software.

1013.3Dr. T's KCSFGVAXZ::MASHIACrescent City KidMon Nov 16 1987 09:5420
    I have Dr. T's Keyboard Controlled Sequencer. My opinion is that
    it's excellent if you want something that does just about everything,
    but I think there is a tradeoff in terms of user-friendliness.
    It takes a while to figure it out. I have version 1.5, which I think
    is the latest.

    The only other drawback (for me) was that it had no sync to tape
    capability. But recently the good Dr. came up with a separate
    synch box (Model S, I think), that takes care of that. Another
    recent addition to the Dr. T line is a multi-program environment
    that allows you to run other programs (patch editors, etc.)
    without leaving KCS.

    Also check out Hybrid Arts. There's another Atari ST note somewhere
    where I described their sequencer package and some other stuff,
    including a 16 bit stereo sampler.

1013.4Passport Leaving ST Market?AQUA::ROSTIn search of the lost biscuit dropMon Feb 11 1991 10:337
    Rumor I got from the Znet online magazine:

    Passport will be dropping all support for Atari ST in the near future.

    Again, rumor only.
