thanks so far guys....
had it a coupla weeks. P.25 of the manual says that it will
interpret aftertouch messages as breath controller, which
then can modulate various parameters according to the patch.
Im pretty sure mine aint workin....and would sure like to find
someone with the same problem, or prove that it's my unit. Sure
seems like it dont work as advertised.
Cleaner output than Fb01, some great sounds, but Im peeved....
Can anyone verify out there that your DX7 or other Yamaha kbd
uses MIDI SPECIFIED aftertouch message? (hex D0,nn) and not
some other 'special' message????????????????????????????
AYYYEEEEEEE!

941.4 | aftertouch is Ax | SAUTER::SAUTER | John Sauter | Thu Sep 10 1987 17:16 | 9 |
| The MIDI-specified aftertouch message is Ax, which is followed by
two bytes: key number and pressure. The DX7 sends Dx, which is
channel pressure, followed by only one type: the pressure.
If your unit needs Ax you are out of luck--the DX7 doesn't send
it. As far as I know only fairly high-end units send the Ax message,
because it requires a pressure sensor for each key. The Dx message
only requires a single pressure sensor for the keyboard.

I can certainly send Aftertouch from My Kx88 to an Fb01. I haven't
tried it with the breath controller. Have you sussed out the difference
between poly and mono aftertouch. You may be sending the wrong
controller. Alternatively give up smoking and blow harder !

| well, er, {humbleness}...
It seems to work last night. Heres the scoop:
yes there is channel A.T. and poly A.T. Both my keyboards
send out Poly AT which is hex Dx,nn; where x is the midi channel.
The only board I know of that does Channel AT is the Kurzweil...
(I guess that's Ax,nn).
No, paul, we aint got a BC....the tx81z will remap AT into BC if
you turn this on...and then you can control pitchbend, vibrato, tremolo,
and certain envelope generator functions WITH AFTERTOUCH. Neat.
But...the voice that is used needs to have those parameters enabled
for BC...and I GUESS thats what I wasnt doing, tho I swear I tried
everything...
Remember the Demo disk in Aftertouch Mag. with the wind controller
doing an AMAZING lead guitar? We is tracking this down. Stay tuned.

No. Someone was gonna mail it to me and never did. Listen, I have no choice
but to take you off my list of recipients for my limited autographed edition
of Simmon's White Sonata in many harmonic keys.
Lose face.

| Another interesting note on the TX81Z (V1.5 ROMs anyway). The stereo
headphone jack is mono unless you have something plugged into output
II (it can be a dummy plug).
