766.1Fight Rumors with RumorsDRUMS::FEHSKENSWed Apr 22 1987 17:4817
Have heard about the DDD-5 (latest Electronic Musician?), it's to
    a DDD-1 like a Roland TR505 is to the TR707.

Anyone heard rumors about a TR1010? Roland better get a new drum
machine out or Korg/Kawai/Yamaha are gonna eat their lunch. The
guys at EUW know from nothing about a TR1010. They also say Roland
will never rack mount the S50. Bummer.

Anybody actually own a DDD-1? Sure looks like a neat machine.
    Anybody used the sampler option?

I was doodling the other night and with 2 megabytes of RAM you sure
could build a neat sampled drum synth. 20 voices, disk based samples,
up to 4 second samples (halfway decent cymbals?), etc...

    len.

Yes I have A DDD-1 with the sampler option. It works. It works very
well. What else would you like to know ?

766.3Casio RZ-1 firesale at Sam AshDREGS::BLICKSTEINDaveThu Apr 23 1987 18:2119
Note that the Casio RZ-1 also has sampling. A friend of mine picked
up an RZ-1 for the amazing price of $219 at Sam Ash in NYC recently.

At that price, it's an AWESOME deal. We're talking about a machine
    that has:

o Separate volume controls for essentially each "instrument"
    	o Separate outputs for " "
o Sampling up to 800 ms
o Lots of memory for both songs and patterns
o Complete MIDI implementation (only 3 velocity levels though)
    	o Very easy to use
    	o Sounds good
o Comes with an audio tape with about 90 percussion sounds one
    	  can sample
o Stores pattern and song data to audio cassette tape
    	o Stereo

    	db

Roland had better do something FAST!

After checking out RX5 at LaSalle yesterday, I'm sold on it as an expandable
drum machine that is quicker to use in real-time and in innovative ways.

For instance, program the buttons to go up in pitch at a programmable interval
from one pad to the next. Real fast, get down and dirty and just make some
music! Great sequencer/mixing capabilities.

Whole different beast than what else I've seen, including new top of line Korg
and Kawai. Much more modular approach from what I see, more oriented towards
performing musicians and stage setups.

This is sloppy because I've been out sick, am worried about moving and have a
million things I'm behind on right now.
