759.1 | Review coming soon? | LOLITA::DIORIO | | Tue Sep 08 1987 11:10 | 7 |
| I assume that you have purchased this unit Paul. How does it perform?
Do you like it? I have saved enough money to buy a sampler, and
was wondering how this AKAI unit compares to an Ensoniq Mirage.
What do you say?

Mike.
All I can say, as I seem to say a lot, is that it does the Job I
bought it for quite satifactorily thanks. I think the main difference
over a unit like this and the Mirage is probably the large Voice
library available for the Mirage and the fact that the AKAI uses
2.8 disks not the 3.? ones.
However it does have an excellent MIDI implementation which I think
I mentioned in my original note and it allows you to store 6 samples
(up to 16 with the upgrade) and it also has a capability of 6 seperate
audio outs. I tend to do my own Sampling and this is a cinch I have
sampled lots of stuff from records and various other sources and
have even put together a whole song which was based on samples all
taken from Phil Collins "Face Value".
It works well as a drum machine add-on with My DDD for getting a
little extra bite into my drum tracks which I tend to master directly
in sync mode from the 8 track.
Anything specific you want to know ?
Paul.

Paul, does the unit come with 6 seperate outputs, or is that a modification
option?

759.4 | 2.8 = "quick disks" ? | LOLITA::DIORIO | | Wed Sep 09 1987 11:07 | 10 |
| RE.2 :
Paul,
What you're saying is that the Akai uses the same size disks (2.8
in.) as the Roland S-10 and MKS-100 samplers. As far as I
knew, this size has been labeled (by Roland I think) as "quick disks".
Right?

759.5 | Quick Quick Quo | MINDER::KENT | | Thu Sep 10 1987 09:48 | 13 |

RE.-1 Yep They're quick disks. I think the "quick" refers to the
time it takes to manafacture them. They are the same ones as on
the S10 and the MDF1.
RE.-2
The 700 comes with one audio-output and a 16 pin din socket if which
each of the pins is one of the sample outs. If you call building
a cable a modifcation, then the answer is yes if not, no. No?
