721.0. "Casio FZ1 Sampling Keyboard" by SHIRE::BOULMIER () Wed Mar 18 1987 02:44

    Hi,

    Does anybody know something about the new sampling keyboard from
    Casio ?
    I just saw that this machine has 29 sec with sampling freq: 30KHz
    and a little LCD screen for wave editing and a 3"1/2 disk for
    storage.

    Anything about sound quality, performances, price, availability.

    Diffenrences with existing sampling keyboards from Roland, Akai,
    Yamaha ?

    Thanks,

    Patrick

    Some news...

    I rang Casio U.K. this morning to find out about op system upgrades
    and the like. They say they're working on a hard disk option.

721.3The inevitable sequencer...MARVIN::MACHINTue May 31 1988 08:037
    Further to .2: Casio rang me back (!) to tell me that they have
    a multitrack sequencer for the FZ's in the pipeline, and 'directory
    software'. All software developments will be back-compatible to
    the earliest FZ versions. No plans for battery backup for memory.

    Richard.

    'Directory software' and sequencer now available free. (Sequencer
    is designed to demo the FZs, not much use beyond that). These and
    other PD sw available in the UK via the FZ owners' club:

    Mark Tinsley,
    FZ1 O/C,
    Muswell Hill Broadway,
    London N10 1B5

    01-883 9709

    Send an SAE for details.

    Also, the Sound Beaureau now have a new library available at a fiver
    a disk. Don't have the address to hand, but they have a multisampled
    sax I think I'm unable to resist. (Not to mention the Bosendorfer).

    Sorry -- my reply was less a 'this is how much it costs' than a
    'why pay through the nose for Roland/Yam when you can get a better
    instrument for less' sort of comment!

    Richard.
