715.0. "Computer Software Catalog" by DREGS::BLICKSTEIN (Dave) Tue Mar 10 1987 10:22

    A friend of mine just gave me a catalog of music software for personal
    computers. The catalog covers Apple II (and derivatives), Commodore
    64 and 128, IBM PC (and derivatives), Atari "8-bit", Atari ST and
    Amiga.

    Each software product is accompanied by a 3 or 4 paragraph description
    and prices are included. The descriptions give you a pretty good
    idea of what the software is/does and various features.

    The catalog, which is called "Coda" was produced by the Wenger
    Corporation which sells the software. There could be some products
    missing that they don't sell but the catalog does seem to be fairly
    complete. It has all the program that I'm familiar with and the
    complete range of Music software: sequencers, patch editors/librarians,
    sampling editors, music printing, etc. Also if you have no idea
    what a patch editor/librarian or a sequencer or whatever does, it
    has a section that describes the generic kinds of music software
    that is available.

    Basically it's an excellent way to find out what software is available for
    your PC or the MIDI equipment that you own.

    The catalog is $4 and can be ordered by calling Wenger at (800)
    843-1337. Or if you are ever at the Spit Brook Road facility, I
    can bring it in for you to look at.

715.1Hard to find software?LOLITA::DIORIOFri Apr 03 1987 11:231
    Dave, is there any software at all listed for the Chroma POLARIS?
715.2Apparently notDREGS::BLICKSTEINDaveFri Apr 03 1987 11:465
    There's a pretty complete index in the back. I could find nothing
    under "Chroma" nor "POLARIS". If there are other indicies to check
    under, I'd be glad to look (I'm not familiar with the Chroma POLARIS).

715.3Software On Sale!!!BPOV04::ALANGO RED SOXFri Sep 16 1988 10:2612
    I just called CODA to order the catalog and was told that they are
    going out of the software distribution business and will be
    concentrating on developing their own line of software. In the meantime
    they still have inventory to sell and was told that everything has
    been marked way down. This may be the time to snap up some software
    cheap! They will send a 1987 catalog ($4.00) if you call with a
    credit card # or you can write to:

    	I work just down the block from CODA, and if you don't mind
    company mail, I could just shoot copies to interested parties.
    I think you can get them in local music stores for free. Let me
    know if there is interest.

    	Just to update you all, Wenger Music is INDEED getting out of
    the Retail end of the music S/W business. But, as stated, they
    are very anxious to move the stock they now have, so if you are
    in the market for MIDI software and some accessories you might want
    to give them a call. Their toll-free number is (800) 843-1337.

    	After checking around with the usual suspects I was able to
    come up with two CODA catalogs for free. I will keep looking, but
    it now looks like you will have to cough up the $4.00 after all,
    if you want one of these. Is it worth it? If you've never seen
    one, they are kind of "artsy" and have some great information in
    them. On the other hand, it was published in late 1987 and there
    are some products which have come out since then.

    	I got about half a dozen responses and have mailed the two
    freebies I got to the first two of these Mitch and Rob. The following
    people are left:
    	Eirikur Hallgrimsson  ZKO2-2/P10
    	Mike D'Iorio	PKO3-2/H31
    	Rodney Mashia	NIO/B9
    	Dan Gosselin    ZKO1-3/C10

    re Brad Schafer	DYO	(did you want one?)
    	and No, there is no demo of FINALE that you can get from them,
    	     however, you can get a dealer to give you a demo. Call
             CODA for details.

RE: .11 (did you want one?)

    Naw - forget it. And the reason I was interested in the Finale thing
    is not because I intend to buy the package ... I just thought it might
    be nice to hear a first-hand opinion of the "program to end all
    programs".

715.14New MIDI gear >> new car???FREKE::GOSSELINto every thing there is a seasonTue Sep 20 1988 13:465
RE: .11 (did you want one?)

	Thanks, but I guess I don't really need it. I'm in the process of
	buying a new car, and I'm afraid if I see the catalog, I'll change
	my mind and buy something I really need.
