634.0. "Electric Violin" by VINO::VOBA () Wed Jan 07 1987 23:47

    I've seen a member (did not get his name) of the group Shadow Fax
    play his electric violin at a concert. The instrument looks very
    intriguing. Does anyone know where i can get more information on
    such instrument?

    I've seen ads in "Keyboard" for something called the "Meta-violin".
    The ad shows Jean-Luc Ponty with the unit.

    I have no idea if this is the same unit used by Shadowfax but you
    might want to check it out...

    re -1.. I imagine the 'electric violin' mentioned lacks a tape recorder
    playback head and does not require the bow to be strung with
    a prerecorded tape.

        I remember probably 10 years ago that I actually saw in a FENDER
    catalogue a solid-body electric violin that they (used to) produce.

634.5A RAAD maybe?FGVAXU::MASHIAFri Jan 09 1987 10:589
    There's also an electric violin called (I believe) the RAAD.
    I've seen it advertised in various music magazines. There was also
    a program segment on National Public Radio a few months ago on it, too.

    I'm not familiar with the one that Shadowfax uses, either, so I
    don't know if it's the same kind.
