590.1 | JX8P beats them, I think. | PIXEL::COHEN | Richard Cohen | Thu Dec 04 1986 14:31 | 6 |
| Spend a little more and get a JX8-P (or even more and get a JX10-P)
Or get a Oberheim Matrix-6. (had to throw that in, even though you
prefer Roland!)

590.2 | How about a JX-01? | BARNUM::RHODES | | Thu Dec 04 1986 15:43 | 13 |
| Do you need a keyboard on it Edd? Thinking back to when I played with your
setup, I don't think you do. Yamaha is putting DX's in boxes nowadays, so
I don't see why Roland would be far behind with their JX series. I'd stick
it out until January NAMM when lots of good things are to be announced.
I think what you really are asking for is a digitally-controlled-analog
FB01ish unit (cheep, multitimbral, and MIDIful) from Roland. It may just
happen...
I still say the Matrix-6's 6 voice poly is a real limitation. I think its
rather like a Mercedes with plastic seats...

590.3 | 16 chanells = 16 keyboards | JAWS::COTE | What is the frequency, Kenneth? | Thu Dec 04 1986 15:53 | 8 |
| Yeah, right. I don't *need* a keyboard. (It just looks so wicked
awesome with all them boards though....)
Union told me last spring there was a JX3-P in a box. I didn't pay
a whole lotta attention at the time. Anyone ever hear of such a
beast?

| There is now a JX10-P in a box. There has been a JX3-P in a box
for some time now as well.
There is also a Matrix-6 in a box (Matrix-6R).

| The JX-3P in a box is called MKS-30, or Planet-S. Union has one
now for about $500. There was also a module called the MKS-7, which I don't
know what it was modelled after (the Juno 106?).

590.6 | Real synthysists don't buy PGs... | JAWS::COTE | What is the frequency, Kenneth? | Fri Dec 05 1986 10:08 | 10 |
| Is the MKS-30 programmable via the front panel or are you locked
into the presets unless you buy the PG200? The JX3-P was easily
edited via the front without the programmer. I could never see the
need for the PG200.
Is the 3P still in production? If so, how much? I certainly wouldn't
pay the >$1200 they went for 3 years ago but if the price was right
I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. Used ones are going 500 - 700.

590.7 | I feel soooo much better now.... | JAWS::COTE | What is the frequency, Kenneth? | Mon Dec 08 1986 08:00 | 16 |
| Never being one to spend alot of time doing research, I went to
Union Saturday and bought the last MKS-30 they had. It was the
rack demo unit so I got it for considerably less than the $495.00
they were asking! :^) (Actually, I feel like I got it for free.
I spent a few hours rolling up a jar of quarters I'd been saving...)
It *is* programmable through the front panel via the usual slow
2 window approach. Select a parameter and use the up left and right
arrow keys to select a value.
The MKS-30 is velocity sensitive and operates on any of 16 MIDI
chanells. Stereo/mono outputs.
I can post more if anyone's interested. Thanks for the pointer!!

590.8 | MKS-30... | AKOV68::EATON | SET PROFILE/PERSONAL_NAME="string" | Mon Dec 08 1986 08:39 | 1 |
| Let's hear it!

590.9 | Nits | DRUMS::FEHSKENS | | Mon Dec 08 1986 17:27 | 7 |
| It's JX-10, no p. The rack version is the MKS-70. There is no
MKS-7.
Do not buy a JX-10 until you've had some time to play with it.
