| Keybored mag did a review of that unit in the Alan Parsons issue.
Me thinks it was an MKS20 with a keyboard in a pretty box. I forget
the model number...
As an aside... How come so many people are chasing down Rhodes
*sounds* instead of Rhodes?

| Well, you don't risk a double hernia shifting it about. And if you
do drop it, you don't need a toolbox to put it back in tune/in tone.

582.3 | What Does a real Rhodes sound like | MINDER::KENT | | Tue Nov 25 1986 11:03 | 11 |

How about the Rhodes sounds in the DX21 type machines. I always
thought that they sounded more like the real thing than the "Chorused"
Dx7 version. However this might cause arguments? Have you ever heard
anybody play a real Rhodes without any effects at all? If you like the
DX21 type sounds you could go for an Fb01 and a controller. Dare
I say KX88 and the whole lot would cost less than a grand (English
Colloquialism which also fits the context)

582.4 | And lucky to get it | CANYON::MOELLER | Just try doing THAT on a guitar !! | Tue Nov 25 1986 14:19 | 17 |
| This past weekend I finally sold my mint 1974 Rhodes Stage piano.
For $250. Almost threw my back out setting it up.
I disliked the Rhodes sound without effects. I used to run it through
a Boss stereo chorus.
Yes, the Roland piano you played was the 'consumer' model. The
'musician' model has no internal speaker and is called the RD-1000.
I didn't like the keyboard action so I got the rackmount MIDI module,
the MKS-20, and a Yamaha KX88 keyboard to drive it. And any OTHER
MIDI modules that strike my fancy.
It strikes me strange that one would go for the Roland piano because
of its two Rhodes sounds.. that's like buying a Maserati because
you like the hood emblem.

| I love the Rhodes sound on the DX100. The patch is called "Old Electro".
It should co-exist on the FB01 too. Try one out...

| re .4 -- I know what you mean about the hood emblems. I certainly
don't intend spending that sort of money on an electronic piano,
even if I liked the Steinway sound (which I don't). But people
_do_ buy Maseratis just to do the shopping in...
Thanks for the info on keyboards/sound modules. I'll psych myself
up to do battle with the pre-Christmas shopping throngs in London...

Ignore London !
Come to manchester and get yourself a real deal.
Seriously though you must have seen how cheap KX88's are in the
U.K. at the moment. If you are thinking about any sort of keyboard
midi/playing at all check one out! Tack it onto an Fb or DX100 and
you have a readymade 88 key supadupa synth.
