478.0. "Casio CZ1 Synthesizer (Big CZ101)" by ECAD::SHERMAN () Thu Aug 21 1986 10:01

I tried posting this earlier, but I must have messed it up. Anybody heard
anything about the CZ-1? The stuff below was extracted from net.music.synth
and is reproduced without permission:

	-------------------------------------------------------

In the new CZ-1 Casio is making a definite statement.
That statement is:
"OK, we're doing it right this time"
In addition to other goodies like being a CZ at heart and using
any CZ patches it's velocity sensitive with velocity info programmable
to any envelope (DCO; DCW; DCA).
But its eight multi-timbral voices can be configured as various
polyphonic or monophonic channels ('till you run out of oscillators)!
If on the allocation of voices to channel to oscillators was dynamic
(like WERSI, which is about the only thing they did right).

Ah, yes...
The CZ-1 will respond to pitch-bend on any channel
with all the voices assigned to that channel.

Though it's not FM, it might be in the same class as the FB01 we've been
hearing about.

The CZ-1 seems to be on sale in France now. I will try to transelate
    what the add says.

Touch and and after-touch sensitive keyboard. 8 curves gives 33
    possibilities of programming.
16 notes polyphonic with 1 DCO, 8 with 2 DCO, 4 with sound mix
function and 1 in solo mode. 64 factory patches, 64 internal and
64 in RAM cartridge (optional). 16 character display where you can
give your own patches names , with light for viewing in dark.
Keyboard split from 1 to 60 areas, with volum adjustable for each
part from 0 to 15. Effects: portamento, vibrato, sustain, pitch
bend, modulation, transposition and chorus. Midi in,out and thru.
Uses same PD technique as other CZ synths. Price $1300.

There is also a remote keyboard unit called AZ-1 at the cost of

CZ-1s have been on sale in the US for at least a month now. They
have (I fooled around with it) at Centre Music in Framingham.
Now if they'd just make a rack mount version...
