375.0. "New, cost-reduced Kurzweil" by HYDRA::AURENZ (Scot Aurenz, Ltn2-2/h7, 226-6342) Thu May 29 1986 22:13
Just heard on NPR's "Morning Edition" that Kurzweil
has released a cost-reduced version of the famous
Kurzweil 250 synth. Actually, it's not reduced by
much - they quoted a price range of $5-8k (I don't
know why the range).
It's called the Kurzweil Ensemble Piano, and comes
with 25 "factory pre-set" voices, a built-in rhythm
generator, and a 4-track recorder/sequencer.
It's reportedly aimed at the "family/amateur" market,
which sounds to me like a euphemism for the Lowry Organ
crowd.
Actually, though, it might not be so bad. The piano sounds
quite good (as far as I could tell from my car radio), and
the rhythm generator actually played some nice licks with
several percussive voices.
They didn't mention MIDI, but I assume it has that, too.
