356.1 | Take a Polk at these... | MENTOR::COTE | $49,000, I think it'll work out right... | Tue May 13 1986 13:58 | 4 |
| For small "stereo" type speakers, I'd recommend Polk Monitor 4A's.
Small (<1c.f.). Good sound.

| Yamaha has a 'ministudio' concept, 4track cassette, effects, amp
and small speakers. The amp and speakers were real nice, and real
small. I haven't seen this gear in a store in over a year. I certainly
understand the urge to miniaturize.

356.3 | QSC and Carver | ADVAX::SPEED | Derek Speed | Wed May 14 1986 10:41 | 9 |
| Carver and QSC both offer extremely high quality amps in a small
(2 or 3 rack spaces) package. They are, however, not cheap. If
you're interested, I can try to dig up the addresses for you.
Both amps offer something 250W/channel and are used extensively
by major sound companies for driving concert sound systems. They
also smaller models (1-2 rack spaces) with equally impressive specs.

356.4 | Good speakers cheap... | AIEIO::ALLISON | | Wed May 14 1986 17:03 | 12 |
| I don't know your definition of small in regards to speakers, but
I've found the Boston Acoustics A70 (appx 12w x 24h x 8d), to offer
the best bang for the buck in the lower priced speakers. Tweeter
sells them for $229-$249 per pair. I bought them as a 2nd pair
of speakers and was amazed at their quality when I A-B'd them with
my ADS 1590's (2K/pair). They have very tight bass, not non-existent
or boomy, which seems good for auditioning synth music.
I also have one of the Carver amps listed in the previous reply.
The M-500t is 250 watts/channel and it measures about 19w x 5h x
12d and can be had for $450-$550 at Tweeter, Lechmere or Commos.

I'm still hovering around getting a Yamaha TX816 and KX88.
Daddy's (in Nashua) quoted me a price of $5700 for the pair.
I know I can get it cheaper thru Sam Ash, but is this a
reasonable price for the convenience of local support?
I saw an ad for a QSC amp in the last Keyboard mag; sounded
interesting.

356.6 | I can do better than that ;-) | DYO780::SCHAFER | Brad (aka Dr. Fingers) | Wed May 28 1986 17:11 | 12 |
| Re: .5 (TX816 & KX88)
I just got quoted the following:
KX88 $1275
TX816 $3895
-----
$5170
That's the best price I've heard yet. See if Daddy's can beat that.

PROFOUND SOUND in Wichita, Kansas. Call 1-800-63-SOUND. Ask for
Bruce Barr and tell him I gave you his name. Hint: no profanity
earns you brownie points with these guys.

If you're talking about the Emulator price, yup. Wasn't a firm
quote (because I didn't ask), but I'm sure that the price is very
similar to the one(s) I posted.
