349.0. "Yamaha RX21L Latin Percussion Synthesiser" by RAJA::SCHMIEDER () Fri May 09 1986 13:41
I bought Yamaha's new RX-21L latin percussion synthesiser last weekend for
around $240 at LaSalle in Boston. great sounds, i never thought latin perc.
could be done on synth! Timbales, congas, bongos, tambourine, agogos, cuicas,
etc. Most in high/low combos, plus mute for bongos. Short and long whistle.
It's a steal at the price.
Functionality is same as RX-21. Lower than RX-11 and probably RX-15. It's
MIDI, and I must learn how to drive it with my RX-11. Anyone know how easy
that is? The manual had me lost, but then I've never programmed in MIDI
before. Don't have the time since I'm moving Monday. Guess I'll have to
sit down for a few hours after that and learn it. Is it worth it without
a computer, or would I be doing the same mundane tasks over and over again,
never quite remembering the correct code/instruction sequences?
I may buy an Atari ST before getting anything else, since they're quite cheap
and versatile. It is becoming more and more necessary to have a computer to
make the best use of all the new equipment coming out.

349.1 | Try this procedure | ADVAX::SPEED | Derek Speed | Fri May 09 1986 14:14 | 21 |
| Mark,
To get the two drum machines to sync together should work like this:
1.) Decide which one you want as the MASTER (that is, which one
you fiddle with to change the tempo) and which one you want as the
SLAVE.
2.) Set the MASTER to internal sync, and the SLAVE to MIDI sync.
3.) Connect a cable from the MIDI OUT of the MASTER to the MIDI
IN of the slave.
4.) When you start the MASTER, the SLAVE should start too.
This worked fine using my MSQ-100 sequencer as the master and my
TR-707 drum machine as the slave.
Good luck and happy MIDIing!!!

| RE: .1
Thanks. I'll try that after I move and unpack.
I forgot to mention that it is unlikely that anything better than the RX-21L
will come out for awhile. The philosophy is that latin percussion is slave
to a master device, either keyboard or "regular" drum machine. So, it is
unlikely than an RX-11L will be released. The RX-21L has sixteen sounds.
