I saw a new 4-track cassette recorder from Fostex in a shop last week called Fostex 260. It looked much like the 450 mixer cut in two and with a tape deck mounted inside. Does anybody have any experience with this unit? The price seemed quite resonable at about $1000. (European price). I guess this is the answer from Fostex to the TASCAM 246, but at half the price. Any inputs? Svein

You can get a 246 stateside for about $1150. $1000 is lot more than half that. The 246 includes a 6 into 4 board and all the necessary routing. Don't know anything about the Fostex, but the 246 is a tough act to follow. len. | |||||

Well that is stateside, in France the cheapest I have seen the TASCAM 246 is at 12500 FF, while the FOSTEX 260 was 7400 FF. So that should be closer to half price than the US price. But then I guess the 260 will have a different price over there as well. My problem here is that even if I see something like this in a shop I dont speak the local language good enough to be able to talk about the data and quality of a product. As I mentioned it looks like the FOSTEX 450 mixer, with the same bar graph meters. It has got 6 inputs (two line), and records four track at the same time. It also have two aux sends. Speed is double and it uses Dolby C. This is what I have been able to find out about it from the shop, but about quality and so on I dont know. Svein. |
