This is a pretty strange speed. I definitely would find out for sure
if it was stated correctly, else, the only thing outside of making
a new interface would be to program yourself a DRV11-J into a serial
interface or mabe better yet make a KXT11-CA application, if I remember
correctly, it has a very wide range of selection for its clock speeds
on its ports. (At least you would have pascal and macro-11 to program
in, but still the overhead of comm between the uVAX and the KXT.)
I'm interested in how the final implementation is done....

| 31.25Kb is the actual speed. It's not that strange when you realize
that it is based on a 500K Hertz clock divided by 8.

| I don't think that it is strange. I am just wondering how to
connect to it...

| If I can get to you via interoffice mail, I would be willing to
send you a copy of the MIDI 1.0 Specification. It contains
enough information to build a MIDI hardware interface and
describes the MIDI software protocol.

254.5 | Use KXT for MIDI with DEC systems | MISTAH::WATERS | | Mon Mar 03 1986 14:41 | 11 |
| I thought about the same thing. Piecing together a MV-I system
out of spare parts, and using it until the real Atari ST software
comes out. I opened the KXT11 manual, and it looks like the right
DEC product to do the comm. You need to add opto-isolators and
load resistors and such, but it looks like you can set the right
baud rate. Also, the KXT can be loaded with code to make it a
useful I/O processor, ala MPU-401. I'm not pursuing this at the
moment, but anyone with access to QBUS systems and a spare KXT11
(and nothing better to do for a month) might try it.

Send me a copy of the MIDI spec, I'd like to look at it...
I'm real interested in getting into a midi system, and since I
have a spare ba23 at home...If I can scrounge a KXT I might be able
to do something.
Let me know...

Another thing I never thought of before was that the r/t interfaces
on the rainbow and pro might make for an interesting approach for
somebody too...

254.8 | Was KXT11 viable? | LDP::WEAVER | Laboratory Data Products | Fri Feb 13 1987 20:15 | 10 |
| Almost a year later...
I am curious whatever became of this proposal? I am just getting
into music. I have a 520 ST, so I have no need for such a system,
but I wrote the MicroVAX driver for the KXT11. I am always
interested in potential applications, even though I passed the driver
off to the MicroPower/Pascal group almost in the same time frame
as the original proposal (around a year ago).

254.9 | No board, no system. | ORACLE::WATERS | | Mon Feb 16 1987 18:39 | 14 |
| Ha! I never found a spare KXT11 and the time to play with it.
I do have the BA23 and tons of uVAX-1 parts. I've also been told
"No problem. I'll get you a spare KXJ11 proto." but my hands are
still empty. All of this stuff is way too expensive to buy yourself,
except the KXT's of which I saw at least one version undergoing
a fire sale ($300, I believe) under some DEC inventory cleanout
special. The idea's not dead, but I don't have the board. Until
I get the board, I won't allocate the time. (And then there's the
matter of falling into the posession of a ADV11, 12-bit 50 KHz
sampling module, which are also very expensive. Oh well.)
Sorry to disappoint you,

254.10 | Need a MIDI spec | JEREMY::AVRAHAM | Jerusalem VLSI DTN 884-3111 | Fri Jan 31 1992 14:33 | 9 |
| Does any one out there has a MIDI spec? I would appreciate if sent to me
to Hudson. I will be visiting there in the next 2 week.
The mail stoop should be: Avraham Menachem HLO2-2/N7.
Would appreciate it very much.
I tried to send a note to .4 but seems his machine is not on the net any more.
