| Yeah vaxnotes is great......if your system manager will support it.
Ours misinstalled it and at the same time killed all other notes access
ie he deleted notes-11, then when everyone in the plant complained he
killed vaxnotes and reinstalled notes-11 and will not consider allowing
the two to coexist, after all vaxnotes is "untested" and he cannot
support it.
I've already lost some notefiles due to the conversion, this one is one
of my favorites, please maintain it as it is.

| Personally, I'm all for conversion. However, as I understand it VAX Notes
only works with VMS V4.2. There are real-life business reasons why some
people can't convert to VMS 4.2 yet. Not all applications can run with the
new base system as soon as it's released. In the development world there's
a big push to increment your version number ASAP, but in the user world there's
a tendencey to hang back, in some cases to hang back as long as possible.

| re: .2
Well my system manager to be blunt, is ignorant. VMS is not the issue
since we are clustered at 4.2. The guy will not even discuss the issue
refuses to answer mail etc. If you decide to convert, I can't blame you,
but I will be left out until our MIS decides to get their act together.
At last report they were still arguing (in their staff mettings) about
what notes software to use........as if there was any real choice.
left out in maine....

| I believe it is possible to install the user agent for your own
use without the coperation of your system manager. I don't know
the details.

| RE: -1
I'd like to install it in my account but unless I'm mistaken it
requires the use of system manager privledges (ie VMSINSTALL).
Ah well if ya convert, ya convert.

| Did we ever get an official answer to the question posed in the original
note? If not, when is this file being converted?
Thanks,
Derek

| Having successfully self installed vaxnotes I remove any objections to
the conversion. Go for it!!!! see you there (when it happens)
gleefully running vaxnotes without my sys managers knowledge....

| After discussion with our system manager, current plans are to convert
this file to VAX Notes format on Thursday 20-Feb-1985 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
The VAX Notes version of this file will be called
{NOVA,QUILL,BANZAI,WEBSTR,BUFALO}""::NOTES$LIBRARY:COMMUSIC.NOTE. After
the conversion, this file (NOVA""::SYS$NOTES:COMMUSIC.NOT) will be write locked
and will be subject to deletion anytime thereafter. All existing notes will
survive in the new file intact.
So please be careful around 5:00 next Thursday afternoon. I'd like this
conversion to take as little time and cause as little disruption in service
as possible.
Regards,
Jim

| Good stuff Jim! We'll be looking forward to the conversion. I just did
some notes files here on my cluster and it was a piece of cake. Now if only
the VAX Notes servers were running properly before I started....
Good luck,
Derek
