164.0. "Harrison's new console" by MILVAX::BUCKLEY () Sat Oct 19 1985 16:21

	I just got back from the A.E.S. show in N.Y.C., and by far the most
impressive advance in technology has come from Harrison. Harrison just released
the worlds first fully automated mixing console. Each I/O module contains two
micro-processors, which feed into a main brain computer located inside the
console itself. There are only 5 knobs on each I/O module, these are assignable
to several different functions (which once programmed can be viewed via a wide
screen monitor). Module features include a 4 band fully parametric EQ, a noise
gate, a compressor, quad panning, 48 track channel assignment, ect. The quad
panning feature is there because it can be used for movie soundtrack/theatre
mixes, as well as, radio, mobile, and studio recording (it very easily could be
used for live use, but it's a little elaborate). It also has scrubbed the use
VCA faders for faders that are completely digital. The several hundred LED's on
the board also tell you everything you've automated. With the entire board
automated, mixing is a breeze, to say the least. How does it sound??? Simply
incredible. Now for the Bad news, the BASIC stripped down version goes for
$350.000, and the slightly larger, more applicable boards go for $500.000 to
$700.000. I think I'll start playing Megabucks.
