Thank you! Actually I heard the Wreck of teh Edmund Fitzgerald the other
day on a radio station here in Colorado Springs .... Made me feel good to
hear GL on the radio again!
Actually, the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald was quite the popular music
anomoly ... in the UK, when first released it went to the top of the pop
charts in no time at all and stayed there for 5 weeks ... Popular songs
much over 3 minutes in length rarely survive 1 week in that position.
Lightfoot's Sundown was a similar anomoly, spending a long time at the
top ...
Ask people who Gordon Lightfoot is (outside Canada) and you may be luck and
someone might know ... Ask them if they know of the songs "Wreck of ..."
"Sundown" or "Early Morning Rain" and you'll get a lot more acknowledgement!
How many people remember a song that about "Maryanne" ... "down by the
sea side sifting sand ... all the little children love Maryanne" ... ????
Written by GL when he was a part of duo called the "Two Tones".

| Prefer Brian Adams, however I do like the song "If you could read my
mind". I think that's what its called. Its one of the lines of the
song anyway.

I'm absolutely struck by our ability to pool our brain spaces into such
a centre of excellence.
Do pass on my regards to Godot.

CBC Talkback on the show AS IT HAPPENS is taking nominations for
the "Greatest Canadian ROCK Song of All Time". The overwhelming
nomination thus far is "Rollin Back to Saskatoon" by the Guess Who.
You have to include your reasons why the song you nominate is the
greatest..."make it matter or they won't spin the platter".

| If memory serves, and increasingly these days it does not, it's
"Runnin' back to Saskatoon" not "Rollin...."

| I think it is "Running back to Saskatoon".
Candy, were you listening last night? Randy Bachmann(sp?) phoned in
himself just to say hi, no nominations from him.
Another fellow suggested that any decent song that is about
Saskatoon is probably a great song for that reason.
Other nominee's from last night that I remember: A lot of BTO tunes,
Guess Who (American Woman), Neil Young (Helpless).

Just caught the end of it driving home. I guess I would nominate
Tom Cochrane for "Life is a Highway" (for the same reason...roads and
highways seem to make me think of Canader.)
Too bad my brain cells were all killed off prior to 1980, maybe
I'd remember some songs.

Jeeze, you are one SICK individual (I love it!!!)
Another favorite:
"She said "It's your drinking, or me". God, I'll miss her" *
or how about:
"My fanbelt slipped, (and her morals did too)" *
