DLOACT::CARBUFFS has more notes on tires than you can think about ...
I have had Michelin XZX tires when they were in vogue years ago, and their
XMS snows. The XZX were great in the dry and light to moderate wet, but
would hydroplane real easily in heavy wet. This seems to be a common
problem in most Michelin 4 season tires. The snows were great in the
winter. I love the handling of Michelin tires ... but I have lots of
reservations.
I hear very little good about Pirellis in anything but dry ...
I did buy Nokia A4 Rollsters several years back ... They had the responsive
handling of a Michelin, but were in a class above as far as winter and
wet traction goes. The hitch is their size range is a little limited.
Recently I bought some BFG TOuring TAs and was not impressed with their
traction on hard pack snow. (We get a lot of that around Colorado because
so little salt is used.)
There were Toyo tires on my Renault Medallion when I bought it in Ottawa
and they seemed OK as 4 seasons ... nothing spectacular but they did the
job.
TO a large extent, I'm sure that the best tires depend on your own driving
habits, your car and the places you drive.
If I could find a place to buy Nokias, I'd buy them again ... they are a
little noisier than most tires. I bought mine for a Renault Alliance, from
a place called the Tire Discounter down in Brampton ... for a very good
price. There is a place on Bank St. in Ottawa that used to sell Nokias ...
but they were nothing special about price.
Good luck in your quest.

This has been a particularly nasty winter so far, ice, deep
snow, slush etc. and the Bridgestone Blizzaks which I purchased
have been great. Best winter tire I have ever owned.
