945.0. "Day Trips from Quebec City" by ENQUE::SEELEY () Wed Jul 12 1995 11:45
My husband and I will be travelling to Quebec City for 4 days and then to
Montreal for 3 days beginning this weekend. We are taking the entire week
so that we are sure to relax, as well as see some sights.
I'm looking for information on day trips to take from Quebec
in case we do get bored in the Old City (4 days). Fodor's Guide only
lists Ste-Anne de Beaupre (and the waterfalls along the way), and Isle
d'Orleans (sp). The AAA Tour Guide lists many places, but I'm having a
hard time deciphering what would be a good day-trip. I'm looking for any
and all suggestions from others who've been there. We have a very
broad interest from history, churches, museums, and shops to nature
views and easy hikes/long walks.
Is the Gaspe penninsula too far? How far is it? What's there besides
a view of the ocean?
Is there anything special to see/do on the way to Montreal from Quebec
City?
Also, has anyone been to Quebec City for the summer festival? We'll be
there for the last two days of the festival.
We're staying at Le Chateau Fleur de Lys in Quebec City and Le Chateau
Versailles in Montreal.
Thanks!
I can't wait to go!

| Ste Anne de Beaupre is good for a religious pilgramage. Also Mount St
Anne in the same area is one of the areas better ski hills (gondola
rides???). I recommend St Jean Port Joli, less than an hour from
Quebec - a town devoted to every form of woodcarving imagined - really
unique. ALso go south an hour or so to La Beauce region - scenic and
friendly.
Quebec to Montreal - South shore autoroute - pretty dull. North shore
more scenic. Beware, my experiences around Quebec are over ten years old.

| Don't know too much about day trips from QC, but definitely make it
over to Ile D'Orlean (sp). It's what I expected Cape Cod to be like
before it became commercialized. Very pretty and restful. Practically
my favourite part of the city!
