It seems that the stork came last night to visit our resident duck!
    Mommy had 11 hatchlings.
Early this morning something spooked the duck and she fled with the
little ones behind her. When they crossed the shipping road one of the
baby's fell through the storm drain on the roadway. Thanks to Norm
Pirollo and quick thinking on the part of the Laidlaw driver they were
able to fish out the duckling with a hard-hat. They then went to search
for the Mother without any luck.
Derek Street made some calls and will take the duckling with him
tonight and it will be turned over to Ottawa Duck Club. It seems that
the duckling can feed and care for itself but needs to be with other
    ducks.
If you get a chance then give these Hero's a big THANK YOU next time
    you seem them.

    Regards,

    Facilities

I dunno what a guage is ... You don't mean gauge do you ?

Ducks aren't measured by gauge ... that's for wire etc.

Ducks are measured by lbs or kilos ... and from all accounts these
    guys are kind of scrawny.

His guage is what tells how guold he is. You know -- in guyears?
I think 12 guage is pretty old for a duck.

The Ottawa Duck Club, I believe is a duck HUNTING club. I guess
    they'll be fattening it up!

It's one of the more oxymoronic truths that Duck hunting clubs (of
which the largest is probably Ducks Unlimited) are major contributors
to efforts to preserve and restore wetland ecosystems.

12 gauge is a gun size but I believe Pat was referring to
the quality of the meat, 12 guage duck is very good duck.

Speaking of misspellling, was that suppose to be beijing
duck or being a duck. If it was being, then we'd all like
to hear your tale of a trip during the misspent high school
	years.

	Wasted minds want to know,

	Mr. Leary

How did you find out about my misspent high-school years?!?!?!?!?!?

That paper airplane loaded with white phosphorus powder supposedly
destroyed all evidence (at least in Chemistry class).

I doubt my mother and all the old fella's in the club do any hunting.
They manage a habitat, count eggs, build nests, maintain walking paths
through the habitat. You might be thinking of the already mentioned
    DUCKS UNLIMITED.

KAOFS::D_STREET,

My mistake. There is an Ottawa Duck Club and an Ottawa Duck Hunting Club,
each with their own agenda.

     Correction to Internal Memo:

The duck was personally driven by myself to the Wild Bird Sanctuary
    on Moodie Drive in Nepean.
It was Derek and Derek' moms idea, and a great one.

The folks at this small isolated bird refuge/hospital take in all
sorts of wild birds that have been abandoned in one way or another.

I really commend them for their humanitarian work....
I plan to contribute some bucks to this center on an annual basis.

Have since found out that the duckling has been adopted by another
duck family of 17 in the Dunrobin area, and is very happy.

If any of you are interested in visiting this duckling, its'
the 4th one from the left in the 2nd brood from the corner.

I still find it odd that the mother decided to have a nest in
    the Digital courtyard in Hull.

Maybe the father works at Digital????????????????

> I really commend them for their humanitarian work....

Just to keep things in perspective here, it sounds more like avian work
than humanitarian, doesn't it? That's a little too anthropomorphic. :-)

Quibbles aside, it's nice that there are folks who'll help keep these
things alive. Thanks for the happy ending.
