895.0. "Where is Thetis Island BC" by SEDPCW::GEE (Chris Gee @ESO) Fri Feb 10 1995 19:57

An enquiry addressed to those of you out on the west coast from across
the water in England.

A young friend has been corresponding with somebody in:

		Capernwray Harbour, Thetis Island, BC

Unfortunately none of our atlases show this place !! Is it that small ?.

Any indication of location in relation to Vancouver or some other large
town would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Chris Gee

Thetis Island (pop. 220) is one of these small islands on the east
coast of Vancouver Island just south of Nanaimo, approx. half way
between Nanaimo and Duncan. It's pretty near to the coast line.

    Yes, I've never been there :-) .

Do you mean this black-and-white cake ?

Yes, I tried one and it tasted, well ... uuhh ... interesting.
But I wasn't sure whether this was a "good" or a "bad" Nanaimo bar.

Or do you mean the Nanaimo Bars ? ;-)

Yes, I've also tried one of these. The one in the Dorcester Hotel, it
was ok. Only a few people were there at the time we entered the bar, it
        was a bit late.

Many thanks for your directions Oli. There are several unnamed small
islands in that area in my Rand McNally overprinted with the town
name of Ladysmith - guess it must be one of those.

The recipient of my friend's correspondence is at a Bible college -
That must account for most of the 'pop. 220'

Feels very wierd to ask a question about Western Canada and get a
response from Germany - ah the wonder of Notes !
