AMTRAK and VIA share a train service from New York to Montreal called the
Montrealer ... There are extensive VIA services from Montreal to Quebec City.
I don't know about AMTRAK services from Boston to Montreal ... unless there
is an AMTRAk service Boston to say Albany, where it might meet the Montrealer.
These are operated by VIA Rail Canada ... not Amtrak ... so Amtrak know nothing
about it. Call a good travel agent!

| round trip by air with overnight Sat Boston to Quebec City is about
$295 advance purchase for each traveler.
Amtrack only sells tickets to Montreal.
Train to Boston to Montreal is $93 one way (additional $$ to Quebec
may be $50?) each.
Sleeper on above train is $289 for a 2 person roomette, one way.
Why would anyone take the Train??
Regards, Phil

832.4 | You have to really like trains I guess | POLAR::RICHARDSON | Sick in balanced sort of way | Tue May 31 1994 14:55 | 6 |
| This is why our trains are 10-15 years behind in technology compared to
Europe and Japan. The sizes of our countries are so large that it
hasn't been cost effective to upgrade rail when everyone is flying.
Even harder after the deregulation of the airline industry.

832.5 | Montrealer replaced with day train | TOOK::MORRISON | Bob M. LKG1-3/A11 226-7570 | Mon Jun 19 1995 17:19 | 11 |
| I know this note is a year old, but I'm going to reply anyway.
The Montrealer was discontinued this spring, but has been replaced by a day
train called the Vermonter. The last leg (St. Albans, VT to Montreal) is
covered by a dedicated bus.
There is no direct service from Boston to Montreal, and none is proposed.
It is possible to take Amtrak from Boston to Springfield and then the Vermonter
to Montreal, but the connections are very poor.
-.1 is right, nobody would take the train from Boston to Quebec City unless
they are a SERIOUS railfan.
There used to bus service from Boston to Quebec City; I don't know if there
still is.
