790.1 | No tolerable hotels in that area | TROOA::SOLEY | Carbon Blob, Sector 7G | Wed Feb 09 1994 11:57 | 11 |
| There are really no good hotels anywhere near the EX, I would not
advise trying to walk there, the neighbourhood, called Parkdale, is,
well let's call it run down. The streetcar service to the EX is good
even in the off season. Catch the Exhibition streetcar at Bathurst
subway station or anywhere along Bathurst south of the station. You can
transfer from the College, Dundas, Queen and King streetcars that run
east/west (just make sure you get a paper transfer at your original
boarding point).
What in heaven's name will you be doing at Exhibition stadium in
February?

790.2 | Goin' for Floyd! | POLAR::STOODLEY | | Wed Feb 09 1994 15:22 | 15 |

Well I won't be visiting the EX in Feb. Actually, I'll be going
to a Pink Floyd concert there July 5. I don't know why I said I'd
be visiting there soon. I guess this seems a little premature,
however, the largest city I ever been in is Ottawa, and I guess I'm
preparing for a long weekend there w a y y y ahead of time.
Anyway, I don't know if my friends up here are sikeing me out,
but they're describing the immediate area down there as being a little
unpleasant.
Any comments???

790.3 | It's in the bag... | POLAR::RUSHTON | տ | Wed Feb 09 1994 18:21 | 5 |

Take along a sleeping bag. When it's beddy-bye-bye time, go into
the Mens or Ladies, get into your sleeping bag and hang you and the bag
on the coat hook in one of the stalls. A fine upstanding thing to do.

| And for a certain other member of this conference, a snow bag would be
more appropriate so as not to inconvenience the other 'guests' in the
room by getting water all over the floor.

790.5 | Will that be 1or2 ply? | POLAR::STOODLEY | | Wed Feb 09 1994 21:40 | 15 |
| Sorry folks,
The "hook attachment option" on my army issued sleeping bag will not
exceed 100lbs. So I guess the hanging in the stall is out of the
question!
As for the "bedwetting" problem.....well let's just say only
experienced bathroom stall campers would know of this problem of
inconveniencing the 'locals'.
Snow bag.....hmmmm.....there may be some confusion here.
I will be visiting T.O. in July.
Thanks for the info. guys, but I do prefer hotels which provide
you with overnight "horizontal" occupancy as well as room service
with a smile, rather than "buddy...can you spare a lung???"

Considering the amount of snow and cold weather hog.town has been
receiving this year, snow in July could be a reality.

weekend. :^)

790.10 | Scummy | TROOA::SOLEY | Carbon Blob, Sector 7G | Sat Feb 12 1994 16:55 | 6 |
| Well back to the serious stuff. Your friends might be a little
overfearfull but basically the neighbourhood around the EX is pretty
scummy. Your best bet is to stay downtown and take the streetcar, or
stay in the burbs and take the GO train, it will stop right at the EX.
|
790.11 | That does sound better! | POLAR::STOODLEY | | Sun Feb 13 1994 14:26 | 14 |
| How far out in the burbs can you gain access to the GO train?
Do you know of a hotel (preferably a hotel chain) within walking
distance to a main Go train station. When I say main I mean I
can hop on a train at that terminal and hop off at the EX.
I realize parking is a problem in T.O. and in the burbs. At least
this way I don't have to drive all over town like a lost tourist
looking for a Go train station and at the same time I have a parking
space for my car.
Any suggestions?

790.12 | GO for it! | POLAR::RUSHTON | տ | Sun Feb 13 1994 15:54 | 13 |
| Since you're heading west, stay east of Toronto and take the GO train
in.
There are plenty of motels, hotels in the Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax,
Pickering areas, and there is access to the GO train from each of these
cities. You can also park at the train station.
The GO train will take you to Union Station in downtown Toronto. You
can wait for another train to take you from there to Exhibition Park,
or use the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) system. I'd go for the
latter.

790.13 | GO straight to the EX | TROOA::SOLEY | Carbon Blob, Sector 7G | Tue Feb 15 1994 01:08 | 3 |
| When there are events at the EX the go train stops at the Exhibition
Station which is right on the grounds of the EX. Not need to switch
from the GO to the TTC at union.

How late does the GO-TRAIN run when there are events at the EX?
In July, I will be probably leaving the EX around 12:00am, possibly
later depending on crowds.

790.15 | The answer is: Late | TROOA::WALLACE | Ed Wallace Toronto, Canada. | Wed Feb 23 1994 10:54 | 9 |
| Scannig my Go train schedule now, I see westbound trains stopping at
the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) at 20:49 21:49 22:49 and 00:19
Eastbound trains 20:13 21:13 22:13 23:13 and 00:13.
There are trains stopping there all day, fewer during rush hour,
thankfully.
I don't know about special trains during 'events' at the ex, as I've
never been out that late.
