    You're new around aren't you?

Read the Sarnia topic and relax.

    hope this helps.

    No problem.

It was definitely an implied smiley...after all this is the
Canada conference not Soapbox or one of those other volatile
	conferences.

Even if it isn't a smiley, who cares, extra points on the
blood pressure scale only serve to ruins ones kidneys.

	Effervessantly Yours,

There is no problem with KAOSWS, we simply do not like any
of the CTH nodes, so we renamed them all in our DECnet node
	database...

	Mr System Mangler

	ps Sorry... :-/

pps No major problem, just an out of date DECnet entry, we'll
	look at updating it...Charlie

I do not see a problem on KAOSWS....what is your DECnet node
	address supposed to be???

Looks like there is definitely some confusion on the correct DECnet
addresses for Ricardo's node and TROZ02. Ricardo ... if YOUR node
address is also supposed to be 62.303 like TROZ02, then send mail to
REGISTRAR @TRO where, I believe it's Justina Chan who will sort it out.

He's off today but I can tell you this.

He entered his note from Conferencing on the PC and it showed up as you see
in in .0

His PC address is 57.489 (CTHP25)

Why did it show up as TROZ02?

I deducted from that that KAOSWS didn't have TROZ02 setup right in it's
DECnet database.

Sorry if we're off-topic here.

An NCP list of both nodes on SWS showed the correct addresses
but the volitile database still showed the old addresses. The
process for updating the volitile database after the full
DECnet database is pulled in must be broken, we are looking into
	it.

For now though, R_OBAS' node will now work...

Well, at least this part is fixed ... there are still some node
name / address problems with area 62 appearing to be assigned twice.

    We're working on that!

    Stuart
764.13CSC32::S_BROOKThere and back to see how far it isMon Nov 29 1993 16:4024
OK, the mystery is solved ...

Area 62 is a "hidden area" ... thus nodes in it are only known within
certain geographic areas. Often hidden nodes are hidden behind a
single router node ... which is when you see node names like
    TROZ02::TROA02::

But in this case, the TROZ02 node is fully known throughout Canada,
but is hidden from other countries ... vis from the USA.

So if I do an NCP SHO NOD TROZ02 on CSC32:: here in Colorado, I get
an unknown node, but if I tell KAOSWS to show me TROZ02 I get another
node. DECnet messages for hidden area nodes like this are not passed
across the bridge between Canada and the US.

So, the only glitch here was a problem with the volatile nodes
    database on KAOSWS.

Thanks for sorting this out Charlie ... and setting me straight
on how the Canadian hidden nodes were set up.

What an astounding insight into the central paradoxes of the human
condition, and of our indefatigable facility for creating adaptive
rationales to account for it! Good god!
