726.0. "Canada Day" by SIETTG::SMITH (Consulting is the Game) Thu Jul 01 1993 16:37

Folks, today is July 1 and I noticed that the wall Calendar
in my office says July 1 is "Canada Day". Could somebody from
that side of the Border please explain the significance of
"Canada Day". note: I'm making an assumption that it's the
equivalent of "the Fourth of July" holiday here in the States.

    						regards,
    							Bob

Or at least roughly. I've no idea what specific event in US history
July 4 is the anniversary of. Canada Day, which used to be called
Dominion Day, is the anniversary of the signing of the treaty agreeing
to confederate several colonies of Britian into a single, self-governing,
dominion, that was somewhat smaller than the Canada of today.
