695.0. "McDonalds" by KAOFS::M_COTE (I'm a mod, not a rocker) Tue Apr 27 1993 09:44

In an unprecedented move, McDonalds Limited of Canada has officially
become a distributor for the government of Quebec. In a move analysts are
labelling as brilliant, McDonalds du Quebec a subsidiary of the
Canadian enterprise, has won a contract with the Ministry of
Transportation, which will allow McDonalds already unequalled
distribution abilities to grow unchecked into the lives of every
citizen within the Province. Analysts see this as a corporate coup,
undermining Cracker Jacks once monopoly of distribution of Drivers
license through-out the province of Quebec. Local citizens have
volunteered that they have been winning their licenses from Cracker Jacks
secret package since they were very young and will refuse
to take part in the scheme. "Cracker Jacks licenses are part of our unique
culture" was heard outside the Grand National MOT building.

McDonalds plans to use the new distribution channels, as a way to
finally include picture ID on the new drivers license. We're very
excited about the fact that each and every citizen will be carrying a
picture of Ronald Mcdonald with them.
This seems to go against rumours from a top Quebecois party member whom
insist a picture of the Quebec Carnival Snowman will be used.
It was also suggested to the parliamentary committee that the wording
on the license be carefully checked for wording which had confused the
younger drivers of Quebec as to the allowed speed limits allowed within
the provinces highways. The parliament passed the bill which prohibited the
words 'Tear along dotted line' from being printed along the edge of
    the new style drivers license.

While this is obviously intended as a humerous note, the use of
real companies names in this way in a Digital notes conference
should really be avoided. It has the potential for causing some
    serious problems.

Mike

Thanks for the update about "tear along the dotted line".

Monday I was travelling on the Ottawa River Parkway. The cruise was set at
77KM. I was passing a van that was going slightly less than that. About 1/2
through the pass a guy climbed up my bumper after flashing his lights.

I decided not to speed up as I was more than 1/2 way through the pass.

The Quebec driving school taught this guy "there is always a solution, tear
along the dotted line". Three abreast we moved down the Ottawa Parkway until
he completed the "pass".

Gotta admit, it took nerve.

695.4I've had good friends get killed, with idiots driving like that,KAOFS::J_WEIRWed Apr 28 1993 14:1911
You realize that if you get a good look at the person/idiot/twit,
and the licence plate number, that you can have the twit charged.

    	Ya I know....part time cop!...right...WRONG.....

About six years ago I witnessed an 18 wheeler tearing EAST bound down the
WEST bound Queensway "Friday night about 6 P.M.", we got the license
plate, but could not see the driver, for that reason the OPP could not
do anything but warn the driver.

695.5Bran Flakes maybe....KAOFS::D_STREETVirtue is relativeThu Apr 29 1993 15:5912
Are you sure the franchise has not been turned over to Bran Flakes ?
On the way into work today, we were cut off by a lady eating a BOWL OF
CEREAL (spoon and all). She seemed more concerned about spilling the
milk than the fact that we nearly plowed into the side of her car. My
assumption is that upon discovering the drivers license in the Bran
Flakes box, she was so excited she could not wait until she finished
her bowl of cereal to try out her new license.

    					Go figure....

It sounds good on paper, John, but it dosn't work unless you have a
witness. I had a guy cut me off then pound the sh*t out of the drivers
side of my car (I was busy running away because he could have been
drunk). He caused $900 damage to my car. Although he was charged with
dangerous driving (solid line pass) when it came to the asault charge
it was his word against mine. The judge couldn't do a thing with out a
witness. This is interesting because his insurance admitted fault &
didn't have to pay my deductable. What all this comes down to is if
someone does something to you make sure you have a witness.
