664.0. "The Mulroney Note" by VAOU09::BOTMAN (Pieter Botman - Western Canada DIS) Wed Feb 24 1993 12:02

Prime Minister Brian Mulroney announced his resignation from the
position of Progressive Conservative Party leader. At the time of this
writing, no statement has been issued as to whether he intends to stay
on as Prime Minister until the PC Leadership convention, or whether an
acting Prime Minister will be named.

Mulroney leaves after 8 1/2 years in power, having won two general
    elections.

now that we are rid of that _______ (fill in your own favorite bad
name) all we need is a national leader (from any party) that is worth
    giving a vote.

    Great news anyway.

    Canadian heros . . .

    	Bob and Doung Mackenzie

Good points: Beer will go way down in price

Maybe we could expedite Ross Perot's landed immigrant status and get
this country back on the road to recovery.

664.5Lucien For PM!!KAOFS::LOCKYERNO! (Tact Is For Weenies!!)Wed Feb 24 1993 12:3720
I heard a promotional cut for The Royal Canadian Air Farce's show this
weekend. They are doing a bit on the results of the next election - they
    predict:

Atlantic Canada will be swept by the Liberals
Quebec will be swept by the Bloc Quebecois
Ontario will be swept by (can't rememebr)?
The West will be swept by the Reform Party
BC will be swept by (can't remember)?

And the new Prime Minister will be Lucien Bouchard who will move the
capital to Quebec City, except for six months of the year when it will
be in Florida. The new Prime Minister was very unhappy at being
elected PM - I thinkthe quote was "Merde! When Quebec separates, I'm
    still stuck with Canada!"

I think the Air Farce can be heard on CBC at 1:30 PM on Sunday.

Do you think the writers are busy re-writing the show? Awful annoying
of Brian to wreck some good jokes!

At least on short wave this show was broadcast last Sunday (21st).

Right from the horses mouth -

Muroney will be staying on as PC Leader and PM until the Conservatives
    pick a new leader.

Mulroney is gone? You mean the rumors they talked about this morning
on the radio are true? At last! I was looking for an excuse to go out
    tonight... this makes it official.

Gee, Derek, we actually agree on something.

I thought the same thing!! Maybe we'll get out of the recession due to
the partying caused by Lie'en Brian's resignation?

It seems to me I heard that episode of the Air Farce a couple of weeks
ago. Maybe they're going to air it as a re-run (this soon?).

About the only thing I'll miss about 'BM the PM' is the way Don
Ferguson of the Air Farce says "Hi, how're you doing" when he does his
    Mulroney imitation.

664.1610 Top Reasons Brian QuitKAOOA::SLADEFri Feb 26 1993 07:3235
Suppose it had to happen, the 10 top reasons Brian quit.

Ottawa Citizen, Feb 25 (Jay Stone, Citizen staff)

    10) Shoe racks filled at 24 Sussex.

    9) Abrupt rise to second place in the opinion poles brought on vertigo.

    8) Changes in Unemployment Insurance regulations made it financially
    feasable.

    7) Trying to get out of town ahead of the repo men from Holt renfrew.

    6) Couldn't face another sweet potato-and mashmallow dinner with the
    Clintons.

    5) All living and breathing Tories finally in Senate.

    4) WELL, everyone liked Pierre Trudeau after HE quit.

    3) Revieved invitation to be special guest at Kim Campbell-Perrin
Beatty-Micheal Wilson-Jean Charet Ides of March toga party.

    2) All problems of country finally solved.

and the number one reason Brian Mulroney is resigning as Prime Minister

    1) Won't be any laughs any more without Joe Clark around.

Doesn't take long but a new pole is out this AM. If the PC's run Kim
Campbell as PM possibility, they are now tied with the Liberals at 37%.

    HI,

I'm Canadian, living in Dublin, Ireland and am interested in gettin
hold of the Royal Canadian Air Farce. Does anyone know if it broadcasts
over in this neck of the woods? If not are there any cassette
    recordings available?

    Thanks.

Amazing! Some relatively obscure minister gets a picture taken of her
and all of a sudden she's a front-runner in the race to be the leader
of this country! Both amazing and saddening at the same time.

Campbell was a rising star before the famous photo was taken.

It is striking, but the media fuss was pretty silly.

I remember watching a debate between Campbell and Copps who were "for"
the Charlottetown Accord and (Sheila?) Carstairs (sp?) and some author
who were "against" the Charlottetown Accord. I found the debate to be a
very lopsided victory in favor of Carstairs and her co-debater. I was
	very unimpressed with Kim Campbell.
