633.0. "Housing/rental costs in Vancouver" by RDGE44::ALEUC2 (Barry Gates, 7830-1179) Wed Nov 18 1992 04:43
After living in the UK for the past three years, I'll be returning to
Vancouver at the end of the year. Can someone give me an idea what
the housings/rental costs are like in the Vancouver area.
What would it cost to rent a 2 bedroom place in Kits, South Van,
Burnaby, Richmond? Does anyone know what the average ( but
nonexistent ) house costs in these areas?.
What about the market in Victoria? Same situation as in Vancouver.
The few reports that I have received say that house prices are still
going up ( faster than inflation ) due to immigration into the area. Is
Hong Kong money still flowing in and distorting the market place?
What are the current mortgage rates?
thanks
Philip

633.1 | Mortgages ... bad news ... | KAOFS::S_BROOK | | Wed Nov 18 1992 09:40 | 8 |
| Mortgage rates currently run from around 7 1/2% to 9 1/4% for 6 month
to 5 year mortgages. BUT beware rates look like they are heading up
due to a Canadian currency crisis. Talk has the prime going up by as
musch as 5% short term. This will probably translate into a reverse
spread with long term money being cheaper than short and long term
rates mortgages up in the 12% range ... if this comes true.
