589.0. "Help With Quebec S'il vous plait" by FACT01::BORDEN () Thu Jul 02 1992 18:27

    My wife and I are planning to go to Quebec city and the Laurentides for
    a week near the end of August. We found a hotel called Suites Journeys
    End in the suburbs of Quebec City. American Express had a special rate
    of CDN$70.00 per night. Anybody know about this place? We chose to
    stay out of the city to have a quieter environment and be between the
    city and the Laurentides. Is there good public transportation into
    downtown Quebec or is is better to drive in and then take public trans?

    Also all suggestions for sights, restaurants, places, anything to see or
    avoid both in the city and in the Laurentides are greatly appreciated.

    Regards from Connecticut,

589.3I've been there!POLAR::LEVESQUEWed Jul 08 1992 18:5014
    I've been at Les Suites Journeys End a couple of times. It is a very
    nice hotel and very confortable too. I'm talking about the one that is
    located just beside a big shopping center called "Les Galeries de la
    Capitale" west of Quebec City. It is about 10-15 min drive to
    downtown Quebec. If you want a quiet environment, I suggest you ask
    for a room not facing the highway nearby.

    I can't tell you about public transportation but it is relatively easy
    to park almost anywhere in Quebec City at reasonable cost.

    Bon voyage!

589.4Chateau Bonne Entente Recommendations???FACT01::BORDENWed Jul 22 1992 09:176
    Thanks for the answers. We are also looking at another hotel called
    Chateau Bonne Entente because Suites Journies End does not have a
    swimming pool and we would like one. Anyone familiar with this one?

    Regards,
    Jay
589.5I liked it!KAOFS::LOCKYERWed Jul 22 1992 10:2517
    I've stayed at the Chteau Bonne Entente two or three times. Quite a
    nice place - very clean, nice grassy area in the middle of a number of
    small "cabins". We didn't have kids when we stayed there, but it would
    be a goof place for children - the play area and pool are away from
    roads. Seems to me the restaurant was good and I know the bar was
    fine...

    Only negative, and I think it's vary minor, is the place isn't new -
    you won't find much aluminum and glass, but then who needs it!

    As I said above, I've stayed there more than once, and assumming it
    hasn't gone rapidly downhill, I stay there again.

    Regards,

    Garry

589.6More about Chteau Bonne Entente...KAOFS::LOCKYERWed Jul 22 1992 10:3013
    Chteau Bonne Entente is actually in St. Foy - just west of Qubec
    City. Very easy to get to from the bridge over the St. Laurence and a
    short drive into the city itself.

    I stayed there when participating in a hot air balloon festival held in
    a little town on the south side of the river called
    Saint-Jean-sur-Chrisistolm (sp?). It seems to me the event was held
    near the end of July or early August. You might want to keep on a eye
    on the sky...

    Thanks to all for responding. At this point it looks like we will be
    going with the Chateau Bonne Entente.

    My wife and I are looking forward to this trip. Numerous people have
    told us they enjoyed Quebec very much. As we both also enjoy mountains
    the Laurentides will be our other destination. From looking at the
    maps both the city and the mountains should be easy to reach for day
    trips from either the Chateau Bonne Entente or Suites Journies end.
    Again, thanks for the help.

    Regards from Connecticut,
    Jay Borden
