As far as children`s entertainment goes there are all kinds of options
in and around Montreal. There is the "Parc Safari Africain" in
Hemmingford which is about an hour south-east of Mtl. (You might want
to stop there on your way up.) This park is a drive through zoo, an
amusement park, a campground, and also a water park I think. Also,
there is La Ronde which is an amusement park on Ile Notre Dame. There
is a great water park there as well and it`s accesible by Metro. (Subway)
Have fun,
Ben

| As far as spoken dialects goes, in Quebec they speak mainly two:
1) French
2) English
French is that exact same dialect that Vendee adopted under the
persuasive insistance of the French Revolutionary armies campaign of
the 1790's. You should be able to recognise the sound of it and to
communicate quite easily.
If you can, try to find a second week-end to visit Canada. :-)

| Check the distance, you may be able to drive right from Montreal to
Quebec without the time and expense of an overnight stop. You may wish
to try the Ile D'Orlean outside of Quebec City. See separate note for
more.
Enjoy,

You can drive from Boston direct to Montreal in one day. It is about
an hour from the Canadian/US border if memory servers.

I go to Quebec city once or twice each year. I live just
about 20 miles west of Boston. I have a few thoughts.
Unless you want to stop a lot on the way, you can make it
to Montreal in one day.
If you leave Montreal in the morning, you can be in Quebec
city for lunch. If you stop at every Antique shop on Rt.20
between Montreal and Quebec, (which is what I do, and there
isn't much else to stop for along the way), you will still
be in Quebec city for dinner.
While in Quebec I would suggest exploring the old city for
as long as your kids can stand it. The old city looks a little
like a Europian city. It has an abundance of good restaurants
and plenty of shopping. Don't miss the lower part of the old
city.
I would also suggest a trip to the Isle D'Orleans. If it's a
nice day, you could spend the afternoon riding around the Isle.
Parts of it look a little like Normandy. Ther are also some boutiques
and Restauraunts on the Isle. My favorite restaurant is on the
Isle. It is called L'atre (sp?). It is a tavern kept as it was
in the 1600's. They take you from the parking lot to the
restaurant in a horse drawn carrige. The food is traditional
Quebec cooking but is the best I have had up there. It is slightly
expensive,(a little more than a moderate priced meal in France),
but well worth it. You should call for reservations if you decide
to try it.
A place that I have never been but plan to go this year is a town
called Tadousac. It is about 100 miles northeast of Quebec city,
where the Saquenay river meets the St.Lawrence. It could be a nice
day trip. I have seen it on TV and it looks like a beautiful little
Sea port. If your into history, Tadoussac was one of the first
settlements in Quebec.
What ever you decide to do have fun.

| Many thanks for all the advice. I am off tomorrow.
I'll post my comments on the trip when I am back in office.
Guy-Marie.
