572.0. "new CBC TV initiative" by VAOU09::BOTMAN (pieter) Wed May 20 1992 22:14
The CBC has recently announced a bold new initiative (where have we
heard that before). I don't recall all of the ramifications or
specific changes, but they are with respect to prime time programming
on TV, and news and public affairs programming.
o The national and journal will be moved to 9 pm
o local news at 11 pm will be eliminated
o the local news package at 6 pm will be moved to 5:30 and expanded
o the 7-9 slot will concentrate on family prime time stuff
o the 10-12 pm slot will feature innovative programming, although I'm
not certain of what they said with respect to this
This is to take effect in the fall, I believe.
My personal reaction, without having all the info concerning the
late slot, is favorable - the national and journal should be earlier,
and anyone who can't watch it that early can tape it or watch it on
newsworld later in the evening. I also think that if the late slot
really is innovative (ie doesn't simply resell american prime time
shows) there is a chance that the CBC will offer something worthwhile
there.
ANy other comments or enlightened opinions?
