The German Bundespost Telekom provides no equivalent of the controversial U.S.
900 service sex lines, but that hasn't stopped people who want to make money
off man's desire for sexual stimulation by phone.
Canada has stepped in to provide the service.
Callers from Germany dial +1 610 204 04xx (e.g. 0402) to hear a variety of
recorded announcements.
Area Code 610 is a special area code assigned to Canada, formerly for TWX
(ASR 33 as opposed to Telex) service. Not diallable from within Canada,
but dialable from overseas.
Callers in Germany pay DM 3.09 per minute (about C$2.16) for the call,
just as though they were calling any other number in North America, and
Canada's international carrier pays a commission to the provider of the
sexy voice.
