546.0. "Music in Montreal ?" by BONNET::BAILLET () Fri Feb 14 1992 07:51

    Hi

    I'll be staying in downtown Montreal from March 6th to March 10th.

    I'll of course visit the area but as I love music (Jazz) I was
    wondering if anyone could recommend a place where I could go.

    Also would there be any event at that time in Montreal ?

    Many thanks in advance
    Corinne

    PS: I've been dreaming about going to Montreal for years !!!

546.1I can ask around for you.MQOSWS::N_CARDELLAFather of TigerFri Feb 14 1992 11:4010
    Hi...

    I am not a jazz fan, except during the jazz festival where most of the
    music hapens in the streets. I'll ask around and see what I can find.
    If you give me your mail stop, I can mail you the "Entertainment"
    section of the Montral Gazette, and it will give you a good idea of
    what's happening.

    well I talked about Jazz because I manage a Jazz group but I am
    also very interested in Pop and rock.
    Anyway, I am afraid that the document you would send will not
    arrive as I leave Next Sunday.. I will by the Montreal Gazette there.
    In case you really think it could arrive in time you could send to
    Corinne BAILLET @VBO/SAB (France)
    Otherwise anyone can reach me with electronic mail corinne Baillet @VBO

    PS: I will be in Avenue du Parc in Montreal (PQ CA H2X 2H5) I have
        been told it was right in the center of town. What do you think ?

546.4yes, it is quite centralMQOSWS::N_CARDELLAFather of TigerFri Feb 14 1992 14:4910

    Avenue du Parc is a street this runs North and South. It is quite
    central, but not exactly in the downtown core. You will be able to
    walk to most of the sites. Actually I live about 3 streets from there.

    You will be in between the shopping district and the Latin Quarter.

    Salut Corinne,

    Si je comprend bien, tu aimerais avoir une liste de bon endroits a
    Montreal. Voici donc une liste d'endroits:

    BISTRO:
    	Le Ritz au Ritz Carleton (tres cher mais si tu veux rencontrer des
                   millionaires...)
    	De Londres a Berlin (Sympa et tres grande variete de bieres)
    	Le luxe (tres in..)
    	Le shed (tres tres in)
    	Hard Rock cafe

    BOITE DE NUIT (discotheque):
    	Le lezard (Alternatif, 1/2 gai, tres fashion, bonne musique)
    	Foufounes electriques (punk, plutot interessant)
    	Passeport (bonne musique, straight)
    	Zoo Bar (Si tu veux rencontrer des Mecs)
    	Thursday's (Pick up joint)
    	Disilvio (incroyable si tu es capable de rentre (membre))
    	Metropolis (immense theatre transforme en discotheque)
    	Le Buisiness (N.B. je ne sais pas si il est toujours ouvert, mais
    		c'etait bien)

    Boite avec Band
    	Les deux Pierrots (rock and roll)
    	Le Spectrum (variee rock and roll)

    Je ne sais pas specifiquement ce que tu recherche, alors il est plutot
    difficile de faire des propositions....

    Richard
546.6Only Music !!! :-)BONNET::BAILLETMon Feb 17 1992 06:4217
    Bonjour Richard

    en fait je ne cherche pas de millionaires ni quelque aventure que
    ce soit !!!
    Je cherche simplement a etablir un premier contact avec Montreal
    ou j'aimerais m'installer d'ici quelques annees.
    Pour ce qui est de mon sejour, et etant passionnee de musique, je
    cherchait des recommandations pour un endroit ou passent des groupes
    Comme style, et pour te donner une idee, j'aime beaucoup TOTO,
    Sartriani, Supertramp mais aussi Georges Benson, Al Jarreau, Pat
    Metheny et beaucoup d'autres dans divers styles (excepte le punk, hard
    rock et new wave !).

    Cheers et merci pour ta liste
    Corinne

    PS: vous pouvez m'ecrire a Corinne BAILLET @VBO.
546.7Some JazzTROOA::SOLEYI will finish what I staMon Feb 17 1992 10:309
    I haven't been in Montreal since the summer but here are the Jazz clubs
    we visited that appeared to have year round jazz.

    Restaurant Claudio, in Old Montreal -- our favourite since 2080 closed.
    Biddle's jazz'n'ribs -- the jazz is more a side issue than the main
                            deal here.
    Upstairs, on Rue Bishop

546.8Le Soleil Levant (Rising Sun)VAOU02::BOTMANPieter Botman - Vancouver EISTue Feb 18 1992 00:2013
    Its been a while but...

    N'oubliez pas le Soleil Levant (Rising Sun), previously the scene
    for many jazz artists (I saw Dexter Gordon there).

    Its (or was) on rue Ste Catherine, between University and Place des
    Arts.

    Next door (almost) was le Spectrum, previously mentioned as a rock/pop
    club...

    Pieter
