479.0. "B&B's in Montreal and Quebec-7/91" by TUNER::BECKER () Mon Jul 29 1991 09:56
We recently had some good experience to share with B&B's in Montreal
and Quebec.
There is a B&B referral service that can find accomodations for you.
Call Montreal B&B at 514-738-9410. They will ask for a credit card
deposit and refer you to a host. They can find rooms in either
Montreal or Quebec city (perhaps elsewhere too?). Caution...make sure
they get a phone number at which you can be reached in case the host
has a problem. If they can't call you back with a change you could
have a problem, or suggest you call to reconfirm with either host or
agency if you are on a longer trip.
We stayed in a pleasant B&B in Montreal only 200 yards from the Metro.
Comfortable old house with beautiful woodwork and nice rooms (host has
4 rooms). Ms. Madeline Kirkman is fluent in French and English and is
helpful with sightseeing tips. She is a widow in early retirement.
You may call her directly at 514-487-4885 (not positive of the area
code, but should be the same for all Montreal). Full breakfast.
Rate is $65 CDN for a double with shared bath.
We stayed in an unusual B&B in Quebec City. It is a luxury high rise
condo where the owner rents one of the two bedrooms. It is on the 12th
floor and overlooks the Saint Lawrence river. You can have breakfast
(continental) on the outside porch overlooking the boat traffic on the
river. You can swim in the pool. Ms. Lucille Gagne is a mid-aged
working lady; enthusiastic host and fluent in French and English. She
is helpful with sightseeing tips. The condo is just West of the park
on the Plains of Abraham, a 40 minute walk to the old part of Quebec,
or just 100 yards from bus route 11 which runs directly to the Chateau
Frontenac. Recommend the rotating top floor restaurant at Loews le
Concorde, a 20 minute walk. Not cheap but worth it. Lucille has
sophistacated tastes...harpsichord in the living room. You can call
her directly at 418-688-8177. Rate is $80 CDN for a double with
private bath.
If you have questions or comments, please mail direct to TUNER::BECKER
as I am not in notes often.
