462.0. "3 year olds in Toronto..." by CSOA1::CARLOTTI () Thu Jun 27 1991 10:24

My wife, daughter (3 years old) and I are planning a brief vacation in the
beautiful city of Toronto on July 8-10.

Since this is the first time my daughter has ever taken a trip anywhere, we
are trying to plan our activities around her. She is very excited about
visiting the zoo and we hear the Spaghetti Factory is a good place to take
kids to eat.

If anyone out there has any other ideas on how to occupy a three year old for
2 days, I would greatly appreciate it.

See you soon,

Rick C

    Some suggestions, none being specific to 3-year olds, but ...

    a. Toronto Islands - The best green space in metro Toronto. Composed
       of 3 islands, connected by walkways and bikepaths. Reachable by
       ferry from Harborfront downtown. Aside from nice lagoons, ducks,
       there may actually be a playground.

    b. High Park - largest park within Toronto proper, this one has some
       childrens playground stuff.

    c. Canada's wonderland. Disneyland north on a small scale, about
       30 minutes drive north of Toronto.

    Bon Voyage

	I was a bit dissapointed with the Zoo, as it was hottish, most of the
	animals were hiding, so there wasn't much to see. I would think cooler
	weather would be the best time to visit.

	We went to the boardwalk - loads of sand for kiddies to play with,
	making sandcastles would be really fun.

462.3Ontario Science Center?HABS11::MASONExplaining is not understandingThu Jun 27 1991 13:0211
    Is the Ontario Science Center...

    1. Still there?

    2. Appropriate at all for a 3 year old?

    I know I loved it in 197?.

    Cheers...Gary

    P.S. I was age 12 ( mental, that's 30+ physical 8') at the time.

    A three year old would love Ontario Place's children village. Take
    a bathing suit.

    The Science Centre is still there and, if your three year old likes
    to look and touch and feel, it's a great place for a day.

    I don't know whether the Spaghetti Factory would be that appealing
    to a child but mom and dad would like it.

    And a second vote for Wonderland.

Wonderland is great for kids, but ....

o	it's expensive (approx $25 per person) but that does cover ALL
	rides;

o	you can't take food into Wonderland, so you either take your own
	food and eat in the car park, or you spend another fortune inside
	on food;

o	DON'T go if there is a "special occasion" going on (e.g. Italian
	Day, Canada Day weekend, etc.) because the crowds are horrendous,
	and you will wait up to 1 hours for the most popular rides;

o	DON'T go if it's too hot. There is shelter there, but not all
	queues for rides are sheltered, so small kids can easily get over
	heated while they're waiting.

Apart from that, it's good. Mid-week (i.e. Tuesday to Thursday) is best
because crowds are the smallest)

Peter B. (who has a season pass to Wonderland but only so he can take his
	  own kids there  ;^} )

P.S.	I've just realized that I have some $4.00 off coupons for
	Wonderland. If you'd like them, please call me (before 3:00 p.m.
	today) and we can arrange to get them to you. DTN 631-7319

Just to wrap up...

Thanks for all of the suggestions...we weren't able to take in all of the
attractions, but we had a very nice time.

We stopped at the Falls for lunch on Monday. My daughter wanted to climb up
on the railing, so needless to say, I was a nervous wreck and couldn't wait to
leave!

We stayed at the Inn on the Park (GREAT Digital rate). My daughter loved the
"playground" area! Had dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory which was really a
lot of fun and very reasonable.

Tuesday was Zoo day! I'm still tired from all the walking. That is a really
TERRIFIC zoo! After a much needed early evening nap, we went to dinner at a
Lime Rickey's (the waitress didn't bother to point out the 2-for-1 special so
we spent more than we needed to, but it wasn't bad). By the way, we had
breakfast at the hotel, which just about wiped out the savings we realized
through the Digital rate! Way too pricey!!!

Wednesday we headed home with a stop at Marineland in Niagra Falls. We all
enjoyed the whale/dolphin/seal show and my daughter had fun on the swings and
kiddy rides (but the lines were pretty long).

Anyhow, the Carlotti's had a lot of fun in Toronto! Maybe if we scrimp and
save, we'll be able to afford to go back sometime this decade ;-)

Thanks again...
