454.0. "July 4th/White Mtn Ideas Wanted" by OAXCEL::FORD () Wed Jun 05 1991 14:08

Hi,

Does anyone have some suggestions of events and things to do over the July 4th
weekend? I've the AMC guide to hiking but we (no kids) would also be
interested in events and things to do of a non-hiking/flat ground nature.

We will be vacationing in the northern White Mountains at a great little inn
off Rte 93 called the Northern Zermatt Inn just a few minutes from Bretton
Woods. (If you need a great spot *very* reasonably priced call Sheila at
603-846-5533.)

I suspect a day trip could take us many places for fun and frolic and thought
I'd ask for suggestions.

Many thanks,
Wendy

I've done the Zealand Hut which is in the area you'll be at. It's a
flat hike to the hut, which sits righ next to several waterfalls. The
hike is Oh say 2 hours or so, can't remember how long. You'll no doubt
encounter others also, as it's a good hike. There's also ample parking
at the start of the trail. Upon reaching Zealand hut, you'll be
rewarded with a fabulous view of Zealand Valley. There's also trails
around the valley that go to other falls

Well, if we want to talk about White Mountain hikes:

Right near Bretton Woods there's a building that looks like a train
station (was one, once upon a time).

From here begins the Mt. Willard trail, which will take you between
45-60 minutes to walk. It's uphill, but not terribly steep. At the
top you are presented with a breathtaking view of the valley to the east.

Thanks so much for these great ideas. I was thinking of taking a day
trip into Canada, but this also will be great fun.

Thanks for your time and ideas!!
