444.0. "Info on Ottawa" by ROYALT::RNOTT () Fri May 17 1991 10:55

    We are planning on a trip to Ottawa nexrt week. We would like to enjoy
    the city combined with a trips to some exotic wilderness or national
    parks etc.

    My knowledge of the area is minimal, and would appreciate any inputs
    I have gone thro' the notes on Ottawa for info. But couldn't find
    anything specific.

    What kind of weather can we expect next week (end of May). What are
    the things that are must see.

    Also looking for places to stay (very reasonable). I would like some
    quips on vegetarian food as well.

    We plan to spend 3 days. Is that going to be too much ?

    One more thing, I read somewhere that all things are closed in Ontario
    on May 24 (Victoria Day). It also said it may be the preceding Monday.
    Can anybody confirm whether it is a definite holiday or not.

    We are currently planning to be there on Fri May 24.

    Thanks in advance

    Ravi

444.1POLAR::RICHARDSONSick in a balanced sort of wayFri May 17 1991 12:0013
    Everything is closed on the 20th which is Victoria Day.

    As for weather, it could be HOT. It was 31C here in Ottawa yesterday,
    a record high. Bring a jacket just in case we get a cold snap.

    If you drive a semi-trailer, you may have a hard time getting to
    Parliament Hill. ;-)

    First stop should be the local tourist info centre. The Ottawa one is
    in the National Arts Centre at the north end of Elgin.

    You can also get some info from the Ontario tourist office in the
    Rideau Centre.

    The Gatineau Park, just over the river in Qubec, is worth a visit.

    Enjoy.

    Bob,

    Has the tourist info centre moved back into the NAC ??? Last time
    I sent somebody there a couple years ago, they reported having to
    traipse into the Rideau Centre because it had moved.

444.4I thought I saw it there!?OTOU01::BUCKLANDQuality is not a problemTue May 21 1991 15:138
    Last time I was there, April I think, it was still next to the bookshop
    at the Elgin street entrance. It certainly didn't move two years ago,
    though it might have done since.

    Just to make sure the number will be in the blue pages in the local
    phone book.

444.5Staying at the OttawanTROOA::DLOTENSemper ubi sub ubi.Sat Jul 11 1992 14:4211

    My daughter's Soccer Team is scheduled for a tournament in Ottawa over
    the Aug 1st weekend, and the Team manager has booked the group into a
    hotel called the Ottawan.

    If anyone has stayed there, or knows what it is like (ie. facilities,
    closeness to sites, food), please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Not absolutely sure, but I think it's a Best Western, west end, close
    to Queensway, shopping and restaurants within 5 min walk. Little if any
    nightlife. Perfect for your daughter, right? 8*)
