347.0. "Identifying with border states?" by VAOU02::HALLIDAY (Professional bad influence) Mon Sep 03 1990 14:43

I heard an interesting comment on the CBC Sunday afternoon - during the
coverage of the Molson Indy race here in Vancouver, one of the
announcers casually referred to Vancouver as `here in the Pacific
    Northwest'.

What do people think of comments like this? Vancouver certainly does
have more in common with Seattle and Portland these days, but to have a
CBC announcer actually admit the fact...

Probably a Vancouverite separatist CBC journalist.

No. It was one of their Tronna crew, flown in for the occasion.

I'm not sure that *any* of the local CBC TV folks are Vancouver
    natives.

Do you think maybe the person was referring to it being the "Pacific
North West" of the continent and not Canada in particular? Because of
our neightbours in the States I always thought of myself living "north"
and they living "south". Just a state of mind I suspect.

Ted, does that mean that you live in Northern Ireland because you reside
in the north of Ireland, whereas if you lived in Newry you would be in
Southern Ireland (I realize that expression for the Republic is *NEVER*
used) because you reside in the south of Northern Ireland?

My wife's birthday is coming up in Oct., would it be appropriate to buy
her this 'Erin go bra'?

Pat (any news about Peadar's cousin in Skibb?)

Pat, you really know how to BLITZ a person. And then you have the nerve
to ask me to recommend something as personal as a Erin go Bra? If you
think she's worth it then go ahead.

RE Vancouver Grand Prix, where did they hold it? What streets? I
only heard that a pit crew-person was killed when hit by a car.
(That's what I get for being in Ottawa.)

If you go "down south" from Detroit, Michigan, you end-up in Windsor,
    Ontario...what was my point?
