Try the Kejimakujik (spelling is off) park or reserve. Trying to reach Halifax/Dartmouth (and back) would be a bit of a haul. There is Mill Village on the south shore as well. That's where the underwater telephone cable to Europe and Bermuda start, might be interesting depending what you're into. Dave

I believe there is something called Peggy's Cove on the way to Halifax. Never made it myself, I went the other way to Digby to visit an old childhood friend and neighbor. Lloyd

Peggy's cove is fairly close to Halifax, so if you want to see it, it might be worth your while to stay overnight, if you have the time. Dave ps - then again, all you'll see are a bunch of rocks, with houses on stilts and a lighthouse near the beach. We cruised in, looked around, noticed it looked alot like the post cards you can buy, and then headed back to Bridgewater....

Hey Mary Jo If your still looking for info read on... Yarmouth NS Local things to do..with no car Walk Main street from Schooners Bar/Grill to the Park but go into the stores you'll be surprised how friendly the folks are. Keep in mind your better off going to the bank to convert your money(there are three on Main st. Keep in mind if driving The RCMP's have control in town and although friendly/polite they dont take no BS. Try the clothing stores for NS tartan either cloth or pre-mades are available... If money is tight than try the "leo's??" for lightly expensed "take-homes" (not sure of name but it is just up the hill from the ferry/customs and to the left and inexpensive!) Fireman's museum ..on Main street Hood's Jewelry (nice looking stuff) Go the dock area and walk the dock nobody minds. And there usually are Trawlers from all over..talk to a Russian there are usually USSR trawlers and a factory ship offshore. There is anew Pizza place(the only one) That I hear is pretty decent...also try some Rappie Pie a local dish that is great If you have a car: As you come up the hill from the ferry dock take aleft onto main street and proceed past MacDonalds following the signs to "Forchu Light" you know it as The Yarmouth light. You can drive directly to it and walk the area..very scenic. If you go back to Mac's and take a left at the lights than proceed by Canadian tire and Zeller's shopping center and the Yarmouth airport within 15 minutes you will be the Tusket area and Mary JO and haven't seen the REAL Novi until you've been to the Tusket Island area(gee can you tell where I'm from?) Keep in mind the people are very friendly and a polite hi or conversation goes far where as a arrogant/touristy attitude goes nowhere..there are many coves and a lot of docks you can either fish from or sit on and relax..only when the RCMP's are around or a bootlegger or a lobster fisherman (out of season) will you detct any tension. I seem to be getting to wordy and this is getting to long.. Call me or send mail for further info on the Yarmouth area I dont know the area's outside Yarmouth in detail as there is never a need to leave the the Tusket/Surrettes Island area. Enjoy there are no friendlier people than the Canadians of the Maritimes. Thanks Bob Brown alias Canuck! and damm proud of it! |
