313.0. "Cottage wanted!!" by TROA01::DLOTEN (Semper ubi sub ubi.) Sun Jun 03 1990 16:31

I'm looking for a cottage to rent for a week in early July somewhere
in Muskoka, Haliburton or on the Bruce Peninsula. Must be on a
lake, have some beach for swimming and be large enough for a family
    of five (5).

I'd appreciate any contacts that you might have!

    Thanks!

    -doug

PS: Be assured that we are a non-Whirley-Twirley family (in case
        that may be an issue)!

This is too late for Doug's request from last June but it may be of
some value for future renters. It might be a good idea to use the reply
format to insert cottages for rent, or requests for information for
specific areas.

I will give a brief listing of what appears in the "1991 COTTAGE RENTAL
directory". About 500 of the 600 cottages that are listed in this tome
are found in south Ontario and west Qubec, the remaining 100 are scatt-
ered over the other provinces and up-state New York. The book includes
a map of the numbered cottage areas, e.g. Area 6 = Haliburton. Also,
there is a chart with distances in kilometres to various resort areas
from various metropolitan centres, e.g. Toronto to Huntsville = 215km.

If you wish to purchase this directory, it should be available in most
book stores (I bought mine at WH Smith & Son). Also, you could order
it directly from the publisher:

There are quite a few summer cottages available in the gulf islands
(between Vanc and Vancouver Island). The Vancouver Sun, the daily rag,
usually has a decent list in their classified section.

At Whistler, 90 minutes north, we have some summer type cottages, but
most of the accomodations are now in the form of large hotels or
condos. But, they are there as well.

Finally another major vaction region in BC is the Okanagan valley, in
the interior (Kelowna, Penticton are the towns there). This too is a
summer vacation area with parks, campgrounds and cottages.

Tourism BC publishes an "Accomodations Guide", which is a starting
point for parks, campgrounds, motels, and some cottages. B&B's are
not covered but there are other sources for those.

1.800.663-6000. I don't know where this number is valid. You can
always try to get a listing for Tourism BC where you are by dialing
directory assistance for the 800 area: 1.800.555-1212.

Hi fellow DECies! I'm hoping you can recommend a nice cottage to rent!

Location:
- Anything, on water, that is within an 8 hour drive from Toronto, Ontario,

Situation:
For the first time as adults, I'm going to a cottage with my now aging parents.
But my Mom can barley walk. And my dad loves fishing, but my husband's never
been. We'd enjoy some swimming if the water was warm enough...

Needed Facilities:
o 2 or 3 bedroom equipped Cottage, with hot&cold water, kitchen, barbeque
o Easy Assess to a BEACH for swimming (no hill climbing!) and to boating
o Able to rent small motor boat (for fishing and little cruises)

Nice to Have:
o Able to rent small 1-2 person sailing boats (lasers, albacore, or Hobies?)
o Bathtub (easier for Mom!)
o Air-conditioning o TV o Close to town or historic sites to visit

Timing:
o For 4 nights to a Week during the period of Fri. June 30 to Sun. July 9

Thanks all

	Sharon,

I will try to get you a number, but you could try information
	under the town of Ompah.

The cottages are rented under Palmerston something or other,
	I think it's Palmerston Cottages.

This is a really nice area an hour south-west of Ottawa. The
lake has lake trout, bass and pike, you can rent boats, etc, etc.

It is easy to get to from Toronto as it is just North of
hiway 7 on the way to Perth, Carleton Place and Ottawa, coming
	from Tweed.

You might want to check Lancaster's Resort located on Missassaugagong
(correct spelling) Lake. They have two, three and four bedroom
cottages ranging in price from about $300 to $450 per week. This is
located about three hours north east from Toronto and is located very
close to Bon Echo Provincial park. They have boats and motors available
as well as canoes. The lake is 7 miles long but not very wide. The water
is excellent for swimming with easy access to the beach. Ninety percent
of the shoreline is not developed. There is lots of bass in the lake
and some pickerel. There are many, many lakes in the area (Kashwakamac,
Story, Mazinaw, Pine) with easy access.

The phone number is 613-336-2423. It's very easy to get to the resort
with only about 200 yards of dirt road.

I've been camping at Lancaster's for the past 5 years and my family and
    I really enjoy the place.

The time frame that you are looking for is the busiest of the year. If
Lancaster's is full, ask them for the number to Twin Pines Resort which
    is nearby.

If you do go, take a day to visit Bon Echo park. It has three
beautiful beaches with lots of picnic tables and barbecues.

    Bernie.
