I have tried to take a motorcycle trip to Nova Scotia each summer (I missed going last year) to do the Cabot Trail and other sites around there. One year (1987) while traveling thru Antigonish I hit the "Highland Games" which were fun to watch. Can anyone tell me how often the Highland Games are put on (annually?) and if so, what the dates for this year's events will be? I would like to modify my travel plans to see them again. Thanks, Paul

Not sure about the East Coast but the Maxville, Ontario (about 30 minutes south of Ottawa towards Cornwall) Highland Games are quite well known and draws tourists and competitors from around the world. These games are held somewhere around August 1st. Alan | |||||

Highland games are held throughout the summer months all over Nova Scotia and Ontario, in particular. There are also some held in various states with something of a Scottish background. During July/August there are at least three different games within an hour drive of Ottawa. The largest in North America is the Maxville Highland Games which is held on the civic weekend in August; this year that is 4-5-6 August. There are different levels of games depending on the quality of the competition and the variety of sports and music being performed. If you want more specifics write to the tourism bureau of the provinces in which you are interested. Tell them you want to attend highland games and they will provide you with a list. Roger |
