294.0. "Roller Skating in Montral" by COVERT::COVERT (John R. Covert) Wed May 09 1990 00:57

Where is the good outdoor roller skating in Montral?

What's the suitability of Parc Agrignon or the les Ste.-Hlne and Notre-Dame
for street skating? Does Parc Maisonneuve flatten out north of the Jardin
Botanique? (I remember some rather serious hills down towards the Vlodrme.)
How about Parc LaFontaine? Anywhere else?

    Hi John,

I don't know about Montreal, but if you have some time on your
schedule, check out the outdoor skating here in Ottawa. The
Rideau Canal is considered the longest skating rink in the
winter. There are paved trails on either side of the canal
for pedestrians, bicyclist and ROLLER SKATERS. These paths are
maintained by the NCC (swept). Terrain is relatively flat.

Maybe I'll see you there or give me a call at DTN 621-4581
and we can arrange a meeting place as long as you promise
not to step on my blue suede roller skates.

Ah yes, I know the Rideau Canal well, having spent numerous hours hunting
ice hogs along it during the winter.

But this weekend, I'm thinking of a trip to Montral.

    John,

I suggest you roller skate down Atwater or Cte Des Neiges. Don't
worry, there are lots of hospitals near by.

re .the_last: I'm so glad my Canadian friends are looking out for my
well-being.

I went skating in Parc Maisonneuve... sometime when the weather's better I
might try a longer skate on the bike paths on the Lachine section of the
Grand Canal.

I might even rent some mules and water skates, but I'm concerned about
cyclists getting caught on the tow lines.
