January. Everyone thought I was nuts.

| Ah.... A man of rare intelligence and obvious wit. I know a bunch of
Montreal fans out here wandering around mumbling and groaning, that are
subject to unexplained fits of crying. I know that in Calgary they have
done everything but blackout all hockey news and if you even mention
the flames they get hysterical.
All I said was "How many Flames does it take to change a flat tire? It
depends... If its a blowout they all show up."
"Why did Terry Crisp only dress half of his players in the games
against LA?..... The rest could dress them selves."
and...
"Did they finally get that fire at the golf course put out? We heard there
were flames racing all over it."

| Here's my prediction from the Hockey Notesfile. Of course I was wrong
about the Sabres, but not about the oilers. They have something to
prove.

-< Sabres will go far >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am predicting that the Buffalo Sabres are going to make it to
the Stanley Cup Finals this year only to loose out to the Edmonton
Oilers. (In 6) Remember, you heard it here first.
Please keep in mind that I am a die-hard Habs fan and a great advocate
of Canada's Famed Grand Canal Project which will be completed soon.

revenge for two years ago. With no Gretzky to save their a$$, the
Bears are going to rip them open. See you in the Gahdens.

P.S. I hear the power is back on at the Gardens :-)

Sorry we can't excuse the interruption. The Bruins are dead meat and
with Ranford playing like he is the Bruins will be dead decaying meat
within 6 games ( and thats being generous ).

Oh no! I opened my mouth about the Oilers again; That means theyre going
to lose another game! Right, there will be no more of that! No more talk
about the Edmonton Oilers!
We'll just talk about Chicago that winning team! Heh Heh Heh! And those
brilliant Boston Bruins! Hah Hah Hah! And good old Washington! Ho Ho

291.9 | edmonton wants to play golf not hockey | MOCA::WILSON_D | VAXft Manufacturing - Engineering | Sat May 12 1990 20:00 | 13 |
| lets give credit to edmonton they did bet chicago, the other night,
so they led 3-2 .... i mean you must think what a wonderful team they
must be to duel with chicago, and still might be able to pull off a victory
if the oilers can bet the tough, fast playing, fore checking, high
scoring chicago (who spent all season practicing against the like
of the blues, maple believes, and detriot) .. they should run over
those wimps - the bruins
ha!
lets be honets all edmonton is thinking about is the golf course

| What a great game! The Oilers are the best hockey team in the world and
proved it on thursday.
Five cups in seven years and winning the fifth only two years after trading
the greatest hockey player in the world to L.A.

| I would like to reiterate that I, a Habs fan, picked the Oilers
to win the cup back in January. I said in (6) against Buffalo but, at
least I picked the right team to win. The Oilers have definitely become
a first rate organization.

| There is a rumor going around for VERY reputable sources, and I
think this is probably a sure thing, that the Edmonton Oilers
are planning to move the franchise to Sarnia (see note 53).
Dude Ranch.

291.16 | Transportation is all arranged | KAOFS::S_BROOK | Here today and here again tomorrow | Fri May 25 1990 14:51 | 3 |

stock and barrel all the way on a barge on the western extension of the
Grand Canal.

291.19 | Sorry. No really! | CGOFS::R_RYAN | I used to be a coyote but Im ok nowooo | Tue May 29 1990 12:09 | 13 |
| I'm sorry, but we cannot move the oilers down east. That would mean
that the east would have a winning team which would totally disrupt the
status quo. It would be unnatural, unthinkable, unconcionable, and
unendurable.
No! you easteners will just have to face up to the fact that winning
the Stanley cup is not for you. I really am very sorry, but there you
have it.
Sincerely and with deepest regrets,
Ron Ryan
P.S Maybe your baseball teams will come through for you.

291.20 | I didn't want the Bruins, but the Oilers?!?! | CADSE::WONG | In search of a better personal name... | Tue May 29 1990 22:50 | 10 |
| Gee, win a couple of Cups and you guys sure get uppity! :-P
Remember, it is an Eastern team that has more major-league professional
championships than any other team in ANY sport! And that team was
winning championships long before the Oilers were a twinkle in anyone's
eyes. You guys just get to hog the cup for a year and then we start
all over again. So there! :-P

291.21 | Bravo les Oilers | MQOFS::DESROSIERS | Lets procrastinate....tomorrow | Wed May 30 1990 15:31 | 19 |
| Even I am glad that the cup stayed in Canada, I was even proud of the
Maple Laughs when they kept it in the country for the Centenial. There
is a sad fact that teams finishing on top all the time (or close to it
anyway) have really poor draft choices. This is the case with Montral
plus the fact that the previous general manager really screwed up
(Grundman). He often picked lousy players against the advice of his
advisers, he had quite a few members of his family on the staff...it
could take years to repair the errors he made AND get the players we
need to get the cup back.
I was always impressed when I saw all the flags in the gardens and in
the northlands colliseum (Oilers), but after I caught an Oilers game
live, where I could read what was on those banners, I saw that there
were only 4 cup flags then, 5 now and that is equal to what Boston has
(5), so even if Edmonton won every year, which is quite unlikely, they
would only equal Montral's wins in 2008!

No prob. What you said was mild. :-)
Imagine being invited over to someone's house to watch the last
Bruins-Canadiens game this season with 10 other die-hard Bruins fans,
*JUST* because they knew you were the only Canadiens fan around?
Now THAT'S giving someone grief. :-)
