274.0. "Post Office Abbreviations" by OASS::BURDEN_D (No! Your *other* right!) Tue Mar 06 1990 08:56

    Can someone tell me the two letter abbreviations (used by the post
    office) for the following provinces? I've tried finding them locally,
    but have had no luck:

    Manitoba
    Saskatchewan
    Alberta
    Newfoundland
    Yukon
    North West Territories (is that really a province?)
    Prince Edward Island

    Also, just to double check what I have:

    ON = Ontario
    NB = New Brunswick
    PQ = Qubec
    BC = British Columbia
    NS = Nova Scotia

    Thanks
    Dave

MB    Manitoba
SK    Saskatchewan
AB    Alberta
NF    Newfoundland
YT    Yukon
NT North West Territories (is that really a province?)
PE    Prince Edward Island

Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories aren't provinces, they're territories.

The ones you had are correct.

274.3Why use abbreviations?KAOM25::TOMKINSThis MIND left BLANK INTENTIONALLYThu Mar 08 1990 08:566
    I never use abbreviations when writing address's on envelopes. I
    look up the spelling in my atlas or dictionary as may be the case
    and write on what I find there.
    I usually do not abbreviate street, avenue or court as well.

    You'll find that most business addresses for Ontario are
    'ONT'...Canada has three letter designations which are more
    popular than the 2-letter American cousins.
