255.0. "The Grand Tunnel??" by TROA02::DLOTEN (Semper ubi sub ubi.) Tue Jan 09 1990 09:50

After reading the morning UK News, courtesy of VNS et al., its enough
to make one wonder if the Architects of the Grand Canal are nothing
more than cheap and tawdry plagarists (who happened to turn the blue
    prints upside-down)!

    -------

The companies responsible for the Channel Tunnel are due to meet their
backers today to discuss extra finance.
Work on the tunnel could stop unless the Anglo-French operating
company, Eurotunnel, raises millions of pounds. But the banks are
reluctant to pay more unless Eurotunnel reaches a deal to cut costs
    with the builders, Transmanche Link.
With only a quarter of the tunnel finished, Transmanche say the final
cost could rise from under five to over 7 billion pounds.

Ah yes, but the Chunnel must raise millions of pounds (tonnes
actually) as their banks are surrounded by their liquid assets,
an sudden influx of fluid stock would certain cause their collapse.

Whereas the Banal is wholly financed by rebated Canadian Tire money.
