     Thinking about style, fashion, beautiful people, the rich, the famous,
    then stay at the RITZ.
     As for restaurants, wellll, It's pretty hard to go wrong in a city
    filled with French Cuisine, However, I would suggest the Saigonese
    for the best Vietnamese cuisine and worst decor, and I would suggest
    the Duc De Lorraine for the most sinfully, richest, delicious, french
    pastries this world has to offer.
     The RITZ is downtown and the other tow places are on Cote des Neiges,
    and if anyone from Montreal wishes to refute the above information,
    please do.
     By the way, the RITZ is just what the name implies, not cheap.

    The four seasons hotel is quite nice, the Ritz is just that, as
    for restaurants look at note 172.4 for a list.

Do any of you folks in Ottawa know if the Embassy West
is a hotel that will give a DEC discount. Three of us
will be staying there this weekend (from Mass.) for some
hockey along with other non-DECees ?

ps What is the DEC discount no. if it can be used.

    VENTURE INN not far from the Embassy West gives 10 - 20 % discount
    to employees who show their badge/s when checking in.
    
    I took advantage of that a year ago.

    I just returned from a trip to Montreal. I did not stay at the Meridien
    but one of my family members did, they recommend the hotel. Also,
    you can get a DEC discount if you five them the DEC id number. It
    is in a central location.  As for restaurants, I have 2 recommendations
    
    1.) Le Caveau on the corner of Rue Victoria and Ave. Du Pres. Kennedy
        1 block south of Sherbrooke. (also, close to the McGill stop
        on the METRO).  Very good french food. 
    
    2.) La Pizzella on Rue St. Mathieu between Sherbrooke and St. Catherine
        Streets. Very good Italian food. This restaurant has been open
        since the end of Sept. 1989 (about 2 weeks). We were there during
        the first week. There were very many local people dining there.
        The owner of La Pizzella is the owner of Boco D'Oro Restaurant
        which is also on St. Mathieu but a little furthur toward St.
        Catherine.  From a conversation we had with a local business
        man seated at the table behind us, the food is excellent at
    
    	Boco D'Oro also.

    Last New Year I spent at Le Grand , Very near old Montreal and across
    from the VIA rail station. Le Grand is a 5 star hotel and has a
    revolving restaurnt at the 20'th floor. 
    I would recommend getting a reservation for the restautant for New Year
    as it is THE place to be , very ritzy..(50.00$+ CDN for meal and
    champagne)
    If you book with VIA rail you can get a package called A VIA GETAWAY
    which includes 1/2 price off hotels (LE Grand included) and also
    Montreal Canadiens hockey tickets included in the package if you ask
    for them.
    

We did 1988 New Year's in Montreal, and it was great.

We let Crimson Travel sell us a package including air fare (on Delta), a
room at the Four Seasons, and a New Year's Eve dinner and party.  (I see
that .0 is in the GMA, so has access to Crimson.)

The only disappointing thing about New Year's in Montreal is the number of
days that are holidays, and thus result in closed stores.
